I went to the gunshow this weekend and spent most of my time wandering around trying to move an unusual firearm I've had in my collection for some time. It received lots of attention, but no serious offers. As always, while meandering through I saw something I thought would be "nice" as a partial trade. After 6 or 7 hours of dragging around I finally approached the table and made a deal, thinking I was getting an Ishapore .308 and some $$$$ for my gun. When I got home and started really looking it over, it turns out it is a No1 MkIII .303 Don't know what happened...I'm claiming aliens infiltrated my brains for a moment. None the less, I blew it.

Please help me get over the fact that I made one of the most boneheaded trades in the history of gunshows this weekend by sharing your stories of not so shining moments in your trading history.

Hey now, a Lee-Enfield SMLE is a fine rifle. .303 is a good round. You could have done worse.

Eh, I make bonehead mistakes every time I go to gun shows and buy guns I already have but want anyway.


You can say you just, 'pulled an anti' (as in pulled an aniti-gun maneuver). You saw what you wanted to see but it was really something different or quite the opposite.

What I traded away wasn't that big a deal...it was a Volunteer Arms Commando Mark III .45 cal Carbine (Think Thompson Clone). I have three of them, so that's not the problem...

I just hate when I don't look closely enough and screw up. It comes from my impulsive nature (which is why I had three in the first place).

I ended up with a very nicely sporterized 7.62X54 Moison-Nagant (probably originally a 91/30) that has been fitted to a really nice microfit stock and scout scope and the Enfield. I agree, I could have done worse, but the tag on the Enfield siad "Ishapore" and I "assumed" .308. Didn't take the time to look at the stamp, as I was on my way out the door after 7 hours of pacing around...

Just hate when I screw up like that.

I'm better now that I've slept on it.

Considering what you traded, I believe that you came out a WINNER. I have had two of the Volunteer Carbines and have not regretted leaving both of them with sombody else!

I had a guy come by my tables and offer me a military issue Colt Service Ace for the princely sum of $300.00.
I turned it down thinking I really didn't need another .22 on the table.
By the time I realized what I had done, the gun was sold,,,,,
