A friend of mine had some guns that were left in a safe that had some water in it. Of course, the guns suffered somewhat. He gave them to me. I would like to either trade them or sell them but I really don't know what they would be worth.

The top gun is a Franchi Veloce. The barrels are clean except for some powder residue. There was/is some rust on the outside. The stock is generally good except that it is spread a bit where it goes around the trigger. I haven't fired the gun but everything snaps and goes "click" very nicely.

The middle gun is a Marlin 336. It cleaned up nicely. The action is very smooth. However, there was some rust inside of the barrel (not a lot I think) and after running a bore snake through it, there are some pits that are still visible.

The bottom gun is a Remington 700 30-06. It also has some rust pits inside the barrel. The bolt is missing. The scope is a Redfield 4X.

I would love to trade these guns for a Ruger SP101 and a 10/22 or something like that but I don't know the value. If you could help out that would be really appreciated. I don't even mind selling them or trading them for a little less than they are worth but I would like to be in the ballpark.

The Franchi is probably worth around $800. There's only one on Gunbroker going for $1400 but it's in a harder to find gauge and pretty much almost new. Unfortunately the rust is a real price dropper on these "nice" shotguns.

For the 336, you'll probably only get $300 if that. I would run an actual cleaning rod with a brush on it before deeming the bore as not so good. Those bore brushes don't always get everything out. The good news though is that you have the gold trigger, which at every gun store I've been to, commands a higher price. I think it signifies better wood or something but I'm not sure.

For the 700, look on Gunbroker or MidwayUSA for a new bolt, then try to sell it. Without the bolt, it's worth squat. With the bolt though you could probably get between $450-$500 depending on the scope's value and if it's still clear and all.

Now here's the kicker: All the prices I gave you are roughly what you would get if you sold them online. If you take them to a gun store to just unload them, expect the offers to be 15%-20% lower than what I said. Taking them with the intent of trading them though will give you a better chance of walking away with more than what you would have gotten if you had just taken them in to get rid of them. Most gun stores stock or will order in Rugers, and I have never been to ANY gun stores that didn't have half a dozen 10/22's on the shelf. Good Luck!

The Franchi looks nice but I worry about "The stock is generally good except that it is spread a bit where it goes around the trigger." If the stock is damaged from swelling in a saturated atmosphere, that is really going to hurt the resale value.

The Marlin doesn't look bad, as said, a good scrubbing might get the barrel to appear ok and adequate for hunting.

The Remington lacking a bolt and with pitted barrel is not going to be worth much.

Clean the 336 and the 700 thoroughly with brushes and patches. If they are still pitted then the value will be pretty low. I have both guns and love them so if they are in decent condition they will be fairly easy to sell at a fair price.

It looks like all three guns are missing the butt plates. Is there water damage to the stocks possibly from standing in water?

It looks like all three guns are missing the butt plates. Is there water damage to the stocks possibly from standing in water?
No, just the 336 is. I took it off to disassemble/clean the gun and didn't put it back on yet.

I see what you mean by the swelling that is NOT good and if fired as is, would most likely result in cracking the stock. If it needs a new stock, the value has gone way down

In relation to a 10/22 (and there is a wide variety from custom target rifles to the 195 Walmart standard carbine) the shotgun is worth rough two of them, the 336 you could probably trade for a 10/22 and cash, the 700, you would do good to go even for a 10/22

If you take them to a gun shop expect the owner to toss out something like, 'I'll give $300 for the whole lot'

There's a LOT on the 336. The saddle ring makes me wonder if it's something like the Texan.
