Well I have been very ill for about three weeks now. Lost 8 pounds, was on liquids for a while. I am feeling better now. So I went to the range today to fire 200 rounds from one of my Taurus 24/7 Pro's .40 caliber. I missed the splatter target completely more then a few times from 15 yards. Then I was shooting low and too the left. Really I think I would have done better blind-folded. Rapid fire was a bit more accurate. Got a little better as I shot more, but the middle of the target was not all torn up. I am near sighted, so when I shoot I wear my glasses. I have trouble seeing the rear sight. I generally use the front sight only as a rule. Now I have not been away from shooting that long. It has only been four weeks. I was shooting standing up, usual two handed grip. The only good thing that happened is I had a couple of rounds where the cartridge failed to fire, but the 24/7 actually resets back to DA and gives you a second try without having to rack the slide. Each fired on the second try, I thought that was pretty nice. This was all at 15 yards. Any suggestions?

The Best to all!
Thank you in advance.

Frank

Were your primers seated properly? Not fully seated can cause this. Hope it is not the gun. I am having that problem with my EMP. It shoots well and feeds/ejects 100% with everything, but it misfires sometimes and the round will usually fire if struck again. Sometimes it takes twice. Same ammo fires 100% in my Bennelli 9mm pistol, my Kel-Tec, and my CX4 Storm. Tried it.

Walkalong

I was shooting Winchester white box 165 gr fmj. I was a little odd to get two fail to fire out of the same box. This particular gun has had over 3,000 rounds through it and never a hitch. I normally use the Winchester for practice rounds.

Take Care Walkalong!

I went shooting today for the first time since late July maybe. I normally go about once a month as time allows but there have been wierd circumstances that have kept me from the range. Today our normal range was closed so my friend and I went to his uncle's place. I felt like a retard for the first few rounds and I never have been all that wonderful with a pistol but it was really good to get outside and throw a little lead around. My biggest issue is that I get no exercise and although I'm not fat by any stretch I just feel weak. (It doesn't help that I live in the damn ghetto now and would need an APC load of Marines to keep me comfortably safe on a walk.)

I know how you feel. Once you get back in your groove and get to the range more frequently I think your shooting will improve. I know that today after a few dismal attempts at marksmanship I locked up and started shooting much better.

Unless your wife has been using your pistol as a hammer, the gun likely isn't the problem with your aim. As for the misfires, until God sets up shop to produce material goods, the occasional failure is a fact of life. All you can do is buy the best you can afford and take good care of it.:)

I bought a Ruger MkII this summer, and putting 100 rounds through it per week has really helped my centerfire shooting.
22LR ammo is cheap, too...:)

Practice practice

One golfer I forgot who says to stay in the groove you have to hit 1000 practice balls a day.

Same with shooting. That front sights gotta be focused on hard and any grip change, follow through changes and on and on changes will give different results.

Retired USAFA pistol coach (me) who stills can jerk a trigger at times. And who anticipates recoil at times.

I shoot 250 rounds a week, and have for almost 40 years. I shoot the SAME day, SAME time, SAME range, SAME pistol. I can shoot like Elmer Keith 10 weeks in a row, and then shoot like Elmer Fudd. I quit trying to figure it out long ago.

Thank you Gentlemen!

I am thinking I should do 50-100 rounds or more, from say 7 yards out to see what bad habits I may have fallen into. [anticipating recoil, etc] I like the .22 idea, or when I get some more money I have been thinking about getting a 9mm and put in some practice with that. The ammo is less expensive and I think it would improve my shooting. I am going to shoot my .45's next week I hope it gets better.

The Best to all of you this Christmas season!

Go real!

Frank, I would practice with the gun, holster, same round, approx lighting etc, each time. It should be like second nature. The pull, recoil, reliability, sound, feel, rebound etc should be like 2nd nature.

You fire a 22 and then in a real situation fire a 9mm and go blind on the second shot. The rebound and recovery should be the the same with each caliber.

Find the gun you like and shoot at least 5000 rounds through using the same equipment (holster, clothes, jacket, glasses etc).

Once you feel good about your abilities you will know! I hope you are on our side!

Really I think I would have done better blind-folded.
Frank

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Now don't be too critical about shooting blind.
I tried it a couple weeks ago and the results can be suprising.:D

Like the Idea

Biggums-I am a .40 and .45 guy. I have two in each caliber. I do subscribe to the idea of using the same caliber and gun for practice as you do in a SD/HD situation. I think I need to go back to the basics. M2 Carbine-Now that is funny! I may have to try a blindfold this Saturday! I have a badly ulcerated esophagus and I got to eat steak for the first time this Friday, loved it! I have another surgical procedure on January 26. I am on the mend.

Thank you to all!
I hope this Christmas and New year Bring Blessing's to all!
