When I was at the Shot Show a couple weeks ago I decided to enter as many raffles as I could find as I was wondering the show. I didn't actually think I would win anything since I never seem to ever win anything. However a couple days after I got back from the show I got a call from one of the vendors letting me know that I had actually won an AR-15 raffle!
The company is called MMC Armory (Mennie Machine Company) and I remembered stopping by their booth when I was there and they seemed like very nice people although I had never heard of them prior to the show. I can't seem to find out too much information about them which I guess makes sense since the appear to have just begun making AR's. I won their Recon 16.1 rifle in 5.56 and I received it today. I remember the rep at the show explaining to me that the majority of the parts are made by them in-house and they seemed very proud of what they were making. The magazine it came with seems decent, I'm guessing it's made by the as well since it doesn't look familiar to me.
I am pretty impressed with the build quality and it is nice and light. The bolt carrier is nickel boron which is nice touch and the trigger is pretty nice. They came up with a weird style ambi charging handle which is kinda nice to have out of the box. The magwell has a nice bevel on it and the the barrel is 1:8 twist with a mid-length gas system.
I haven't had a chance to put in any range time in on this rifle yet but hopefully weather permitting I will soon. I do plan to make a few modifications to this gun, including but not limited to, ditching the birdcage flash hider and replacing it with a BCM Gunfighter compensator, Magpul MOE Grip and Magpul BAD lever. I'm also thinking of trying out the Magpul XTM hand stop, my friend has one on his AR and I kinda like it. I'm thinking for an optic I'm going to go with a Burris Fastfire 2 and obviously some back-up iron sights as well.
So this gun has a ways to go before I have it configured the way I really want it and I will do a range report once I put some rounds through it. I will post some updated pics once the mods are completed. I figure at the very least no matter how this rifle performs on the range I can't really complain since it was free
In the meantime here are some pics of how it came from the factory.
