I won't be doing that again

I have a folder on my S12 but I haven't shot it with the stock folded. Seems silly to shoot a shotgun without a stock. I like accuracy and teeth.

Here's a thought for all of the PGO fans that find out too late that they bite, A long lanyard tied to the end of the barrel, with a loop in the end to put your foot through so the thing doesn't hit you in the face.

The PGO model has a clear warning that it is supposed to be fired from the waist only, duh. In my home the longest possible shot is just over 10 yards and even shooting from the waist I'll dust any target at that range.
Heh. Have you tried it? And, more importantly, try it along side a properly stocked SG. Try both against movers. Try both against multiple targets in one relay. Try both against targets that are offset from you vertically (you do have stairs, right?) as well as horizontally. And, most importantly, do it on the clock.

I don't doubt one bit that you can dust off targets at that range with a PGO. I just seriously doubt that you can do it better than you can with a stocked SG, given the same amount of effort and practice. If giving up time in a gunfight is worth it to you to look cool (and that's really the only thing it brings to the table in a HD scenario, the compactness factor comes in when deploying from a vehicle), hey, it's your life.
I saw an Army cat get out of a stryker with a pistol grip shotgun while doing a civilian tour in Iraq???Never got to ask him if it was armory issue
I have seen a some footage of military guys with PGOs and it seems mostly for the intimidation factor towards prisoners. They pretty much worthless in any other instance.
Door breaching. Deployment from a vehicle. Those are the two big ones for the PGO. Your guy may have been doing both (he was certainly using it from a vehicle).

3" magnums

After a bruised jaw, and nearly knocking out my front teeth (which I've had since I was a kid):barf:,.,., I took the pistol grip off my Mossberg 500 and installed an adjustible synthetic Choate stock. The spacers allow you to change the length of pull for winter and heavy coats to summer with no coat.
You can't go wrong!

I got the upper-pictured one (without the pistol grip).

Advanced Technology (ATI) Makes a great M-16 style collapsible stock. In my opinion,it makes a great alternative to a PGO.Being somewhat short and stout, most aftermarket stocks are too long for me.I can use them, but quick follow up shots from the shoulder are clumsy and slow. With the ATI stock the controls are readily accessable, the action is far enough away to avoid the need for dental work, and you can mount five extra rounds on the stock.

As a Mossberg 835 owner who likes to play with 3.5" magnum loads, I'd have to say the best way to go is a combo stock; the PG used with a shoulder stock makes it a lot more manageable than either alone.

I've fired PGO shotguns...not fun at all and hard to use my right wrist the next day. I recently purchased an 870 and plan to either stay with the normal stock or go with with one of the speedfeed pg/stocks. I can't seem to find anyone around with an 870 with the choate or speedfeed though...would hate to buy and not be satisfied with the fit and or quality.

If MidwayUSA has it, get it from them. If you don't like it, they will take it back (unless you ruin it in some way).

That way you get just what you want!;)

i like the way the stock on my mossberg 500 is right out of the box fits tight to shoulder and cheek for a quick aim and even with 18 in barrel have broken a few clays plus at 8+1 you better be able to hit somethin

I found the guy who recommended PGO shotguns and non-lite 3" Magnum loads out of a non-ported 18" barrel with a slippery non-wraparound forearm be shot by below-average strength people sighting it at eye level -- his name is Darwin!

Coosbaycreep? Sorry, but you just were not supposed to make it. Improving the gene pool and all that... Others here are just whining "I told you so" due to a lack of fortitude, experience and/or foresight.

Al

PS: Can we please get all the guys, guys I said, who hate PGO shotguns and ultimately admit they were limp-wristed to just come out and admit it now, once and for all? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I put hogue furniture on my PGO mossberg 12 ga, expecting the recoil to diminish drastically

Why would you expect it to reduce recoil? Weight of the gun and the load in question have to do with that. Even perceived recoil wouldn't drastically be changed by a different grip on a PGO.

PGO are hard to shoot well, add more recoil to the wrist than is necessary and, IMO, really don't add anything beneficial to a HD shotgun except for false bravado and misplaced machismo.

This is why you dont try to aim down the barrel of a pistol grip only, they are designed for manuverability in close quarters, to be fired from the hip or mid chest level, not aimed. basically a gun that can be manuvered well indoors for a HD type situation. They are great guns in their place, which is not being fired with slugs/3 inch mags at eye level. Walk around your house until you find the longest open area, from one end of that area to the other is the maximum distance you should be using a PGO shotgun, they really are not good for anything else.

I started this thread way back in 2008!

I sold the PGO quite awhile ago, and now am just content to let my shoulder get beaten up instead of my face, but thanks for the continued concern.

funny how threads keep a going like the energizer bunny,i recently had a ati 6 position ar/15 pistol grip stock on my winchester 1200 police,it interfered with the pump/forearm release, finger not in right place, i never could get used to it,tried to sell it on here, nobody wanted it, so i trade it for a new, cold steel kobun tanto knife at a pawn shop, i restained my old wood while it was off the gun, like it much better.
