Congressman, that is.

We all love to beat our chests while shouting MOLON LABE at the top of our lungs, but short of direct confiscation, this energy gets us no where.

So what does your Congressman have to say about the second amendment?

Here's what mine had to say when I asked him about his thoughts on the
second amendment, family protection, etc.

Dear Mr. Kennedy:

Thank you for contacting me with your opinion on Second Amendment issues. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you.

The right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution, and I am a consistent supporter of that right. I believe that violent crime must be reduced, but I will not support measures that infringe upon the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.

I support an individual's right to defend themselves, their family, and their property with a legally obtained firearm. This right is put in jeopardy by those advocating stricter control measures. The gun control movement hurts law-abiding citizens and businesses, not the criminals who care nothing for the law. I believe we can better reduce the misuse of firearms by strongly enforcing laws already on the books and maintaining responsible judiciaries.

I am fortunate enough to have a congressman who doesn't need to be reminded. I did go to one of his town hall meetings and he made himself very clear, and he hasn't deviated.

In Utah, even our sole Democrat rep (Matheson) is very pro-gun, to the point I would expect him to vote against the party when the time comes. (Although I would certainly feel better if he weren't a part of the majority in the first place.)

I emailed mine about 2 months ago regarding forcing the DC city government to comply with Heller. I got a nice typewritten letter back a few weeks later stating he agreed with me and laying out his 2A views. I'm sure a lot of it was boilerplate, but I appreciated him (probably his staff, actually) taking the time to specifically address my concerns.

In Montana we've got a governor and a junior senator who have been assured, as in, "he looked me in the eye and told me", that Obama wouldn't take their guns. I'm not so sure about mine though.

An anti-gun politician's chances of getting elected in Montana is somewhere between slim and none, but when they wander off to DC they frequently need reminding about what they said and what's important to the folks back home. When anti-gun bills come up it's time to write, and also send them a thankyou for actually representing their constituents wishes and not that of their party bosses.

We've got some good ones here in Texas. Interestingly enough, there are a number of Democrats among them. Don't take my word for it though, the NRA gave a bunch of Texas Democrats outstanding to very good ratings.

i write to my representatives all the time. unfortunately , the responses that i get back only offer lame excuses for the actions that they have taken, none of which are the wishes of the public

See this is what I'm talking about. If we spent less time whining about the doom and gloom coming our way if Obama wins, and more time letting politicians know the consequences of trying to alter our second ammendment rights, then maybe they won't be taken away in the first place.
