There’s little in the world I enjoy more than shooting 22LR’s at long range.
That yellow silhouette target is your 200yard target, yes? How much dialing is there in that target, or are all of those shots at the same setting on the optic?
I’m glad you took your 22 out to 200 yards! It drives me nuts that more folks don’t realize what they can do with their 22’s, even with their common optics and some inexpensive mounts/rings. The math is pretty straight forward: supersonic ammo will have about 12” of drop built into a 100yrd zero, and subsonic/standard ammo will have about 17” in a 100yrd zero. With a 2” optic height, that’s 14moa or 19moa “up” from optical center. Getting out to 200 requires another 15-18moa from 100yrd zero, so basically, any scope with 80moa internal adjustment can make it in a flat base, whereas adding 20MOA in the base or rings gets us out to 300 and beyond before we run out of scope. Add 20-40moa of angle to the mount or rings (Burris Signature Zee rings are under $50) and most optics can typically get out to at least 250, and many common optics can get out past 400 yards. I have a 22 Charger set up with 60moa of rings and base angle under a 90moa scope which lets me sneak a hair past of 500 yards before I’d be stuck holding in the reticle. Too much fun to be had. I generally want to be under 2moa out to 200, then under 3moa at 300-400 with a given load, otherwise my targets have to get annoyingly large.
I’m actually cleaning our Chargers today to take my boy out tomorrow after school - there’s a Silhouette event Sunday I might hit about 2 hours from here taking us out to 385, and then another ELR-22 event next weekend which will run out to 460 on 12” square targets. Hoping my boy still has it in him after a month away from the trigger to at least make a respectable showing, but we’ll have fun either way.
