Greetings,

I had some time on my hand and I did a few searches about I4895 with 150, 165, 168 and 175 grains bullets.

Is it me that is too high on Crush Cream Soda soft drinks or with all those bullets weight people pet peeve load is 47 grains when using I4895?

I found 11 reference of 47/47.5 for 150 grains bullets, 22 with 47 grains for 168, 6 for 47 grains 165 and 4 with 47 grains with 175 grains bullets. :what:

Thank you
...time to go pickup another soda pop in the fridge in my garage and look at my wonderful reloading setup...

Yes, 47.0gr seems to be a popular IMR4895 load for the .30-06. Perhaps that's because so many guys are shooting Garands, as do I. Here are my IMR4895 loads:

147/150gr - 48.5gr.
165/168gr - 47.5gr
174/175gr - 46.5gr.

Don’s load are just where you want to be, especially if you are a new reloader. Ammunition fired in Garands was often in the lower 43,000 cup range. The velocity is out of a pressure barrel, you want your 150's to be less than 2700 fps, GI ammunition I have tested is closer to 2600-2650 fps.

This rifle was issued into service in 1936, you don’t want hot loads that drive that bolt hard into the receiver heel. What matters is a pressure curve appropriate for your rifle, IMR 4895 was the primary powder used in the Garand through most of its service life.
