Greetings Gents,

In this resource constrained environment, I wanted to check my notes on Ramshot TAC and VV N540 before I started loading 308 with it.

Does it operate better near max?

Is it accurate throughout the charge range?

Better with a specific grain bullet?

Load success with 125/130 grain, 150-155 Grain, 165-168 Grain, 178-180 Grain.

I will be shooting these from stock Savage and Remington 308s. Using FC and LC brass.

Looking for hunting accuracy. MOA or less is the goal. Have 155 Scenars, 165 SGK, 168 Nosler CC, 178 ELDx, 178 AMAX, 180 SGK.

Any comments welcome.

Thanks much,

JB

43.0gr TAC and a 150 fmj is a pretty good "blaster" load for me. TAC did pretty well at 42ish gr and a 168 as well. I think TAC would probably be best with 168's and under. It has been more accurate for me in the upper half of load data. As always, start low and work up! No experience with N540.

What barrel length? I have 3 x 20 inchers, 18.5 and 22 inch. Im usually starting on the top half of the load data.

42.5 TAC with 155 Scenar what would you guess the velocity is?

Mine is a 20" LR308. No idea on the 42.5 gr velocity, best guess would be 2600-2650ish.

I think I read somewhere these lapua 155s are exactly the same size and shape as their 168. This mattered to me for pressure in load development.

I tried TAC in 223 in a rock river NM AR and a 308 bolt. Good velocity as I remember but Varget gave tighter groups in the sweet spot. MOA over a 10 shot group with Varget was pretty easy, TAC opened up the groups a bit. It would be fine for hunting, I use it behind a 130 Barnes Ttsx in an 18 inch Adirondack with about 1.5 moa 10 shot if I let it cool between shots.
