So I've been reading about those new tac-con 3MR triggers that are about to come around, and I may get one after some reviews come out on it. Then again, I may not. Anyways, it got me thinking.

How much fun would an IAR build be?? That is select fire?? Very!!

I'm just not very familiar with what parts I would need that differ from a standard AR. I realize that IARs are not made for continuous sustained suppressive fire, and that they are made for accurate suppressive fire for short amounts of time. But it would still need to be a bit more resistant to overheating and handle better with much more fire.

I need to know about the parts. I need a heavy CHF barrel and such, but what about the buffer set up?? Don't I need an H2 buffer or something?? What sorta parts would I need to make it more effective and resistant?? Thanks guys for the help.

I'm seriously ready for a build like this, haha. :D

I actually started a thread last week on the ST&T's board.
Check it out!
I agree, I'm waiting on reviews.
I loved trigger time on the IAR.

Thanks, though I'm not really sure what ST&T stands for?? Haha, if love to check it out considering how many replies I got on this.

You would need to start with an HK MR556 (civilian version of HK416) to begin with.

Per Wikipedia:

"The M27 is essentially an HK416 D16.5RS with accessories required by the Marine Corps.[25] The standard optic is the Trijicon ACOG Squad Day Optic (SDO), officially designated the Sight Unit, SU-258/PVQ Squad Day Optic. It is a 3.5×35 machine gun optic that has a Ruggedized Miniature Reflex (RMR) sight screwed on top for close-quarters engagements under 100 meters. Created for the SAW, the day optic offers more magnification and longer eye relief than the ACOG Rifle Combat Optic (RCO) on M16s and M4s. The longer relief helps reduce injury risk from recoil.[1][18] It is issued with the Vickers Combat Applications sling and rail sling mounts, AIM Manta Rail Covers, Harris bipod, KAC backup iron sights, a foregrip, and bayonet lug.[26] The M27 initially had a Grip Pod, which is a foregrip with bipod legs inside, but it was later replaced by a separate foregrip and bipod."

What he said.

If you want to build it as close to the M-27 IAR as possible, then you will need to start with the H&K MR-556A1.

If you want to build it as close to what competed but got rejected, then you will need to start with a Colt 6940P, FNH SCAR-16S or LWRC M-6A2.

If you want to build it akin to the specifications for the IAR trials, then you will need to start with a gas-piston 16" barrel carbine.

Thank you, but it is not my goal to create a copy of the M27. I plan to build an IAR that does the job it is supposed to, and I guess that I would like to build it akin to IAR specifications. I'm going to start looking into that. I just need it to cool well and do what it is supposed to.

How well do those straight jacket barrels work?? Thanks!!

Actually now that I checked it was here in rifle country. Here's the link.

Those are some great platforms to get started on as well. I've got an LMT build with heavy barrel and ACOG-RCO, if the reviews on this trigger are consistent thumbs up for a few months I will be looking into one for sure.

There was a 16.5" IAR "clone" upper made from a 416 on GunBroker for $7500. It had the bayonet lug and correct profile. The lower would have to be a pre-84 lower which wouldn't match the IAR, if you want select fire. I would buy an Hk MR556 and put the bayonet lug on it and call it quits. Of course they come with a Trijicon ACOG and other options. I love my MR556, and it already has the 16.5" barrel. It is just a heavier profile.

Collector0311- Yes!! That's the thread that brought it tony attention. I wonder if it may become cheaper after a while of being sold?? I just want to wait to see some reviews.

CharlieDeltaJuliet- It looks nice!! I've taken a look at those MR556's, but I don't know that I can bring myself to lay almost $3,000 for another AR variant. Even the uppers I see are almost $2,000. I would end up switching out the stock 2-stage trigger anyways. Do you like it all that much more than any other AR?? I know it's piston. How much do you like it?? Advantages??

It is clean and operates on any ammo I feed it. I honestly love it. The trigger isn't a common replaceable part. I think Geissele is the only maker so far but I might be mistaken. The advantages are that they are made to wear an extremely long time. The disadvantages are parts if you do need them are very high priced. I personally held a 416 that had over 120,000 rounds through it for testing. It still fired and met military specs on accuracy. It rattled a tad but hey... I am honestly now going to buy the MR762. After that I will have to add the Sig 516 to my collection. I am a piston guy. Just my preference. I won't argue piston versus DI. I just like what I like and until other people start paying for my firearms, I will continue to buy what I like.

If you were looking at a true IAR M27 clone with MR556 lower you will have over $7k in the rifle without optics or such.. The 416 uppers bring a stupid amount of money.

But to answer you last question..."Do I like it all that much more than any other AR??" Yep. I actually love this rifle. It is accurate, reliable and more than I hoped it would be. Others might not like it, but I had my pick and this is what I chose out of personal preference.

Well after that kind of a review, I'd say it sounds like mighty fine rifle. That doesn't change the fact that I won't throw that much money into it anytime soon, but it's definitely on my radar now. Thank you. My build doesn't need to be an M27 replica, just something that functions well as an IAR. I could build it and give it my own designation, haha. What parts increase the effectiveness of an IAR??

I like the look of that sig, though I think I'm gonna go from the ground up. Thanks so much for your help!!
