"$300? You can barely find a .22 at that price anymore. Actually, barely even .22 ammo.'

actually considerable less than $300. So yeah, it was a steal.

Where do you lucky finds such deals? Haha. I've been in the market for a Model 8/81 for a while and just waiting for a good deal. Nice find!

So, what would you pay for a Browning semi auto designed 30 cal? No, not a BAR but that other Browning semi auto?

What would you pay for an iconic walnut and steel rifle that was not only popular big game rifle but arguably the first semi auto police patrol rifle and was used to bring down the likes of Bonnie and Clyde?

From bears to Bonnie and Clyde, how cool is that?

Buddie's B-I-L's neighbor had this Remington 81 in 300 Savage for sale which was his late fathers. Local gun shop offered him less than dirt for it, I offered him just a bit more than dirt and now am very happy. Made in 1947, with leather sling, checkered walnut stock and Redfield peep sight. Stocks been refinished but so what? This baby is a shooter! And the 300 Savage is a darn good deer cartridge.

Just thought I would share cuz I'm happy....:D

Hey, you don't think Kalashnikov invented that safety on his own do you?

Very very nice, I really am looking for one myself.

And that soviet never invented crap, he might have stole ideas like soviets/Russians tend to do, but no way a nobody from nowhere with no history came up with that out of the box.

No idea what color that stain is. I bought it that way and it hard to photograph to get the most accurate view of it. The two horizontal photos are different camera setings. The lower photo is about the closest I could get. The upper photo shows more to the feathering in the grain however. I really don't know much about photography.

Severely untrue Sir!
Drinking a really good cup of coffee before work will unlock all of your brains design potential!

Unfortunately, no one in Russia knew how to make good coffee.

The Russians solved that problem by "inviting" noted German coffee expert, Hugo Schmeisser, along with a small trainload of his fellow German coffee specialists to prepare the brew for Kalashnikov at the Soviets Izhevsk, arms factory, thus allowing him to design the AK47.
It's TRUE!

or not...

I do recall reading an article back in the 70's about how Kalashnikov's main contribution to the AK was raising a knot on Schmeisser's head for every part he tried to add to the design. :)

I honestly have no idea what part Schmeisser really played in the design of the AK, but it is "curious" that he just happened to be at Izhevsk when an unschooled former tanker working there came up with the design...

nice rifle! carried one {model 8) in 35 rem for 20 years after white tail. one shot one kill. dead right there. only rifle I ever had that kicks you coming and going because of the long recoil action. sounds like a train coupling but gets the job done. the sleeved barrel also can be disassembled but I strongly advise against it. 300 savage is a great round. I got stupid and sold my 8 to a youngster, and have regretted it since. congrats on a fine weapon.
