I have heard stories about FFLs accepting a military ID plus a utility bill to show residence/identification.

I was wondering: what is required for ID?

The ATF rule is that it is a document or combo of documents that show name, picture, signature, and address.

Does every document presented have to be government issued? Can I give my old (but not expired) Oklahoma DL plus my last 9 months of utility bills and satisfy the ATF ID requirement?

Thanks-

For many years, I used a military ID and my paycheck. The US Army LES shows your state of residence, in the small print below the interesting stuff.

They really hate it, but they accept it.

They prefer driver's license or state ID card.

what are you trying to do?

why would any shop not accept a DL?

why the need for answers. If your DL is in force and still correct, then why do you need 9 months of utility bills.

here all you have to do is walk in and flop a DL on the counter, the NICS check is what is going to trip you up if you have something to hide.

I realise some states require FOID"S or permit to purchases, but Oklahoma?

I got to believe they are more enlightened than that.

The story goes: the ATF calls me a resident in both NC and Oklahoma. I have an OK DL. I want to make a purchase in NC. I rent an apt in NC, but I still retain my Oklahoma residency.

I want to buy a shotgun, but my FFL said they need a NC DL. I figure my Oklahoma DL plus my utility bills from my NC apt should do the trick.
