I have an idea to promote gun safety and interest in schools. My wife teaches at a private school that is always short on funds. They need physics equipment to revitalize their science program. I thought it would be fantastic to get a grant for a program that promotes firearm safety and interest.

Here's the deal - grant provides funds to purchase necessary equipment. School conducts the following gun related activities:
1) Gun safety course
2) Study ballistics, case studies in gun forensics, guest speaker from State or Federal forensics lab, guest speaker from law enforcement or military about uses, capabilities, and mis-uses or firearms.
3) Field trip to forensic lab in which various caliber firearms are discharged into ballistic gel, etc, bullet fragments are analyzed, etc.
4) Presentation about various career tracks involving firearms.

Of course the sponsoring organization would provide appropriate handouts with relevent information about ballistics, laws, rights, safety, etc.

The whole things could be set up so parents could opt their kids out. I know the kids in our school would be jumping up and down for an opportunity to do this. If successful it could be offered on a wider basis if the funding was available.

2 Questions:

1) Is this a worthwhile idea and what changes would you recommend?

2) Would you contribute to an organization that offered these grants?

3) Does somebody (maybe NRA) already offer something like this?
