Your .38/32 Terrier was produced between 1936 & 1940. Serial range for those years was 38976 to 54474. The .38/32 refers to a .38 S&W chambering on the .32 sized I frame. It shared the serial range of the square butt .38 Regulation Police. 500 examples of the Regulation Police in the 47440 to 48127 range shipped in January 1938, so 1938 or 1939 seems likely. for your serial number.
There was a smaller S&W Hand Ejector, the .22 long Lady Smith on the tiny M frame. This was probably too small, as the forcing cone is known to crack when shot with long rifle rounds.
The grips on your gun are aftermarket, probably from the 50s or 60s.

Prodict code 1036089, was used between 1984 & 1995 for the non-drilled and tapped version, and from 1995 to 2001 for the drilled and tapped. Specs were stainless, target stocks, combat trigger, target hammer, red ramp front, white outline rear and 8&3/8 inch barrel.

These were originally built on the .32 caliber sized I frame, hence .22/32. The Kit gun part of the name refers to a gun that would be thrown in a kit bag when going camping, fishing, etc. The -1 after the model number refers to a design change, in this case a change to the .38 special sized J frame. the I frame was deleted in the early 60s and all of the smaller S&W models were then produced on the J frame.

AWHxxxx dates that gun to early 1987. The -3 designation means the gun is not pinned or recessed. This gun predates the Endurance Package design changes intended to prevent the gun going out of time when shot a lot with magnum loads.

Unfortunately I'm not a true wizard. I've used Radagast as a screen name since around 1999. Tolkien wrote fantastic books that were a delight to read as a pre-teen and even better now I am in my 40s.

Thank you for the DOB info. This is the first Model 10 I have held in hand. It is just a delight to hold and the trigger feels better than I could have imagined.
Take it from a 59 year old - the tales from Middle Earth seem even more rewarding to re-read the older you get.

After doing some searching on various internet forums, I think the 12-2 model was introduced in 1962 but the D serial number prefix began in 1967. Do you know when the S&W Airweight 38 SPL CTG Model 12-2 next model number sequence (after the D prefix) began so that I can properly determine how old the gun is? Your help is much appreciated.

The number under the cylinder yoke is an assembly number, used to track parts in the factory. It has no meaning after the gun was completed.
The grip frame on the early aluminum KA frame airweights is slightly thinner than the more common steel K frame and aftermarket grips may not fit.
The Model 12-2 was produced from 1962 to 1977, when it was replaced by the 12-3.

Your Model 15-3 K38 Combat Masterpiece was manufactured in 1970.
PlusP is fine. S&W do not recommend PlusP in guns made prior to 1957.
The gun is built on the medium sized K frame, there is a large range of aftermarket grips available.
