You have a .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change, manufactured between 1940 and 1942. Yours was probably made for the civilian market after the US Government began supplying Britain and before the declaration of war by the USA and subsequent take over of all weapons production by the US govt.

Between July 1985 and November 1985. There is a recall out on your gun, there should be an M stamped after the model number if it has been modified under the terms of the recall. Basically some 586 & 686 guns could lock up when the primer flowed back into the firing pin hole. The modification involved a new firing pin and firing pin bushing.

I am curious when what I believe to be an old “triple lock” might have been produced.
a) .44 S&W Special CTG
b) 6.5” barrel
c) Squared grips
d) 6 shorts
e) Fixed sights
f) On the butt is the number 115XX (same number is also near the front of the ejector shroud)
The revolver also has the following patents listed on top of the barrel.
Mar 27 94, May21, 95 Aug 4 96, Dec 22 96, Oct 9 01, Dec 3 01, Feb 6 06.
The old gal’s finish is pretty rough but she still shoots like a champ, I took her out and put her through the paces this past weekend.

In good condition the Standard Catalog of S&W gives a value of $750, in very good $1250 and in excellent condition $2000.
mac1956: Your model 60 was made between 1965 & 1969. It will probably have a satin stainless finish with a flash chromed trigger and hammer. If it has the original grips and there is an uncheckered diamond around the grip screws then it was made in 1968 or earlier.

mac1956: In 2006 the Standard Catalog of S&W gave a value of $500 for an as new in box Model 60. I guess that is your starting point. Check www.gunbroker.com www.gunsamerica.com for current auctions.

Bought my first handgun today. Here's the specs:

Please... I have a S&W model 10-2 Airweight 38 spl.CTG I would appreciate DOB and any potential value..
A) 38 spl
b) 2 snub
c) None factory MUSTANG 3 wood
d) 6
e) 1/8 in front channel rear
f) D477985
G) model 10-2
Under the grip on the left side are the numbers 58526 on the lower frame right side a circle with a double strike N and a triangle witha K in it..
Also it has 3 trigger guide screws and the left side thumb cylinder release is curved.
SORRY NO PIC but little wear if any on the cylinder edges.
Its a dark blue revolver...

Your 12-2 was manufactured in 1972 or 1973. If it is an Airweight it is a model 12-2, not a 10-2. In excellent condition the Standard Catalog of S&W gave a value of $375 in 2006.

Heat treating of cylinders was introduced at serial number 316648, so it is safe to shoot with modern .38 special loads. S&W still discourage the use of Plus P ammunition in guns made before 1957 however. These early guns lack the hammer block safety introduced in 1944, so it is best to keep the hammer on an empty chamber. Potentially dropping it on the hammer with a loaded chamber could cause it to fire.

I just picked up a J Frame at a gun show this weekend. It is my first Smith & Wesson and I think I have fallen in love with it, parting with it as a birthday gift for my mother might prove harder then I originally thought.
I would really appreciate an idea of when the gun was made before I give it to her:

Model 67-1
Hi all
Just acquired a model 67-1 4"; square butt; ser# AHY71**; DPR on left side of frame. Appears in very good to excellent condition. Locks up very tight. Your help wil be greatly appreciated.
