Hey-Mikey:
You have a .38 Military & Police Model of 1904 4th Change manufactured between 1920 and 1927. Your gun was manufactured aftewr heat treatment of cylinders was adopted, so it should be fine with any standard pressure commercial ammunition. PlusP probably won't be a problem either, S&W do not recommend PlusP for use in guns made before 1957, but it is often stated on THR that today's PlusP round is the equivalent of a prewar standard pressure round. Don't use ammo marked +P+ as there is no industry standard for +P+ and it could be at .357 magnum pressure levels.
Your gun lacks the modern hammer block safety, so it would be prudent to leave the chamber under the hammer empty if the gun is kept loaded. if dropped it could fire.

I would appreciate any information about a recent purchase:

a) 38 Special
b) 6"
c) square
d) 6
e) fixed
f) K6704XX
g) 14-2

I had some difficulty posting a picture, but I hope the data is enough.
Thank you.

I don't think that is a Canadian marking as they used an arrow in a C, that appears to be an arrow in a J. I suggest you make a new thread in the firearms research sub forum. You may get more responses there.

Y'all have helped me before, maybe one more time?

Just picked up a model 60 with a serial # of AHD4***

Am I right that the number size was increased in 68 to meet the GCA requirements?

With this short a number I think she's an early one. almost mint and barely fired but she cost me dearly. My favorite 1911 for the 60 and a blacticaled out ak

Oh well maybe I'll find a kid who wants the tac ak for a 1911 back then all will be well....

Thanks in advance for the dating. :)

Also do the S&W books cover their rifles? if so I've a 1500 Howa built Smith that it would be interesting to date also....

poco loco:
AHD4xxx dates your model 60 to between January & July 1985, so it isn't a very early model. The change to the three letter, 4 digit serial number occurred in 1983 and I have read a comment that it was at the request of the BATF, but I've never seen any documentation.

The Howa 1500 rifle was imported by S&W between 1981 and 1985. The Standard Catalog of S&W lists each of the S&W rifle models, but does not give lists of serial numbers for them.

danjet500:
Your model 63 .22/32 Kit Gun Stainless was manufactured in the period 1980-1981. Serial range for those years was M130001 to M160000, so 1980 seems likely.

kentucky_smith:
Your K22 Masterpiece was manufactured in 1956. Serial range for that year was K266165 to K288988. In 1957 the K22 Masterpiece was designated the Model 17.

luvoldgunz: You have a .32 Hand Ejector, manufactured between 1948 & 1953. It is built on the small I frame, modern J frame grips will not fit it. In 1957 the .32 Hand Ejector was designated the Model 30.

This is my father which he bought brand new, never fired and which I found today in the closet covered in a rag and stored for most of it's life. Exceptional condition considering it was probably produced in the 80's from what he remembers! Any info you have on it would be great! Can't wait to try it out!

I have a Smith & Wesson Model 64-3, serial number is 7D108XX, 4 inch barrel, 6 shot revolver stainless, I can see Mod 64-3 when I open the cylinder, also the number 41174 and B3 (the 41174 has an S under it). It has a black S&W leather holster with a 4 on it and 2 speed loaders with matching dual leather carrier for the loaders. I does have some decent Pachmyar Gripper grips on it. I paid 360 which I though was okay because it is on excellent shape & clean. Says .38 S&W Special CTG. on the side of the barrel. Any idea of the date of this gun or value? Thanks, feels great in the hand, nice balance.
