Hey-Mikey:
You have a .38 Military & Police Model of 1904 4th Change manufactured between 1920 and 1927. Your gun was manufactured aftewr heat treatment of cylinders was adopted, so it should be fine with any standard pressure commercial ammunition. PlusP probably won't be a problem either, S&W do not recommend PlusP for use in guns made before 1957, but it is often stated on THR that today's PlusP round is the equivalent of a prewar standard pressure round. Don't use ammo marked +P+ as there is no industry standard for +P+ and it could be at .357 magnum pressure levels.
Your gun lacks the modern hammer block safety, so it would be prudent to leave the chamber under the hammer empty if the gun is kept loaded. if dropped it could fire.
