The guy at S&W told me 1976 and 1981, so that all checks out. Any idea what they would be worth? I've been told about $400 for each pistol. Thanks for your help.

686 4" bbl CS 1
Interested in the birthday of a stainless, 4" bbl, Smith and Wesson 686. Has CS 1 stamp inside of frame visible when cylinder opened.

If a true 3 inch barrel it will be worth something to a collector. Most frames had a 2.4 or 4 inch barrel (measured from the forcing cone to the muzzle). The standard muzzle length guns are worth around $550 these days.

Probably $350 for the airweight, $350 - $450 for the Model 15.

Just traded a S&W 65-3, 4 inch, 357 magnum. I'm not really sure about the previous owner so I'm a little concerned... Is there a way to find out about weapons that are stolen.

Early nickel Bodyguard 38 Airweight 2 inch (no dash in the model number)

S&W had some weird serial number ranges with the J frames. If a pinned barrel then Your Model 38 Bodyguard Airweight dates to 1971-72. If the barrel isn't pinned then 1983.
The Model 642 .38 Centennial Airweight Stainless (no dash) was produced betweeen 1990 & 1993. Yours probably dates to 1991, as serial numbers in the BKNxxxx range shipped in August of that year.
Your Model 64 .38 Military & Police Stainless was manufactured in 1973 or 1974, serial range for those years was D510001 to D659901.
Assuming excellent condition The Bodyguard is probably worth 300-$350, the Centennial a little bit less as new guns can be had for $350-$400, and J&G sales were moving ex security DAO Model 64s for $230 to $250 last year, with supply drying up I would expect it to be worth a little bit more than that at this time.

ABKxxxx is the serial number, that is the number law enforcement would track. I suggest you delete the full serial number from your post, you don't need someone making a false claim of theft.
Your local sherriff/ police department should be able to do a stolen property check.

Thanks Radagast for the information. It's a gun I want to pass down to my son. Still shoots good with regular .38 ammo. Understand +P is not recommended.

New to the forum and the hobby, but I can already tell this is the place and these are the people who know what is going on. I have inherited a handgun (like so many others here) and would appreciate any information you can provide:

In excellent condition, originally owned by my grandfather who was a security guard during WW2 for a defense department contractor. Any interesting information would be appreciated. I have yet to fire the weapon yet, though a local gunsmith has gone thru it and found everything to be in good working order.
