Your Model 15-4 Combat Masterpiece was manufactured in 1981.
Your Model 37 Chiefs Special Airweight was manufactured in 1976 or 1977. Serial range for those years was J370001 to J760000.

griff383:
Your Model 629 .44 Magnum Stainless was probably manufactured between January 1985 (ALAxxxx) & July 1985 (AHSxxxx).

hello Ive got a S&W 357 model 19-3 blue steel 3inch barrel in great condition ! What is it worth ? Thank you

686 4" bbl CS 1

Interested in the birthday of a stainless, 4" bbl, Smith and Wesson 686. Has CS 1 stamp inside of frame visible when cylinder opened.

SN is an ANSxxxx

Thanks!

gathert:
Probably $350 for the airweight, $350 - $450 for the Model 15.

corkycopper:
If a true 3 inch barrel it will be worth something to a collector. Most frames had a 2.4 or 4 inch barrel (measured from the forcing cone to the muzzle). The standard muzzle length guns are worth around $550 these days.

david58:
The CS1 was a 686 variant, product code 104229 manufactured for US Customs in 1988.

Model 10, at least I am pretty sure it is, doesn't have a model number on it anywhere.
a) .38 special
b) 4 inches
c) square
d) 6 shots
e) fixed sights
f) D5788xx

New to S&W revolvers

Just traded a S&W 65-3, 4 inch, 357 magnum. I'm not really sure about the previous owner so I'm a little concerned... Is there a way to find out about weapons that are stolen.
S&W 65-3
4 inch
7927x on the barrel opening
ABK0081 on the frame
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
JD

Guys I have 3 S&Ws that I wonder when they were made in.

Early nickel Bodyguard 38 Airweight 2 inch (no dash in the model number)
1J2xxxx

Early Centennial 642 Airweight 2 inch, also no dash
BKAxxxx (and that xxxx is a LOW serial number)

S&W M64 ALSO no dash 4 inch pencil barrel
D55xxxx

And yea, any idea what they are worth?

Thanks,

Deaf

winchester1886:
You have a .38 Military & Police Postwar manufactured between 1948 & 1951, serial range was C1 to C223998. The Model 10 designation was introduced in 1957.

Deaf Smith:
S&W had some weird serial number ranges with the J frames. If a pinned barrel then Your Model 38 Bodyguard Airweight dates to 1971-72. If the barrel isn't pinned then 1983.

The Model 642 .38 Centennial Airweight Stainless (no dash) was produced betweeen 1990 & 1993. Yours probably dates to 1991, as serial numbers in the BKNxxxx range shipped in August of that year.

Your Model 64 .38 Military & Police Stainless was manufactured in 1973 or 1974, serial range for those years was D510001 to D659901.

Assuming excellent condition The Bodyguard is probably worth 300-$350, the Centennial a little bit less as new guns can be had for $350-$400, and J&G sales were moving ex security DAO Model 64s for $230 to $250 last year, with supply drying up I would expect it to be worth a little bit more than that at this time.

tx78218:
Your Model 65-3 .357 Magnum Military & Police Heavy Barrel Stainless dates to 1983.
7927x is an assembly number used to track parts in the factory.
ABKxxxx is the serial number, that is the number law enforcement would track. I suggest you delete the full serial number from your post, you don't need someone making a false claim of theft.
Your local sherriff/ police department should be able to do a stolen property check.

Nar:
You have a Model 10 manufactured in 1973 or 1974. If a tapered barrel then its a Model 10-5. If a heavy (straight) barrel then its a model 10-6. Occasionally guns made it out of the factory without model number stampings. The Model number should be on the frame under the cylinder yoke.

Shopping A Round:
Your Model 642-1 Centennial Airweight Stainless was manufactured between 1996 & 2002. The Standard Catalog of S&W doesn't give a CPH serial range, by late 2002 S&W were up to CFSxxxx, so my guess is that the CPHxxxx range was a special designation. Either that or some 642-1s were shipped several years after the 642-2 was introduced. As the gun is quite recent a call to S&W will clear that up as they will be able to give you the year.

You have a .38 Military & Police Model of1905 - 2nd Change manufactured between 1906 & 1909 in the serial number range 73251 to 146899.

forgetitiohio:
Your Model 37 Chiefs Special Airweight was manufactured in 1982. The serial number only signifies that it was made in that year. 48 guns later and S&W started the serial range again at 1Jxxxxx.

Thanks Radagast for the information. It's a gun I want to pass down to my son. Still shoots good with regular .38 ammo. Understand +P is not recommended.

I also have a S & W Model 19 357 magnum Serial # 7K88XXX. Can you tell me when it was manufactured?

New to the forum and the hobby, but I can already tell this is the place and these are the people who know what is going on. I have inherited a handgun (like so many others here) and would appreciate any information you can provide:

38 Special CTG
6" barrel
6 shot
S/N 645635 (on the butt)
I have also found the same number stamped on the inside of one of the wooden grips.

In excellent condition, originally owned by my grandfather who was a security guard during WW2 for a defense department contractor. Any interesting information would be appreciated. I have yet to fire the weapon yet, though a local gunsmith has gone thru it and found everything to be in good working order.
Thanks in advance for your help.

IndyGTO:
You have a .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change manufactured around 1934. Serial numbers in the 646xxx range shipped that year. It lacks the modern internal hammer block safety introduced in WWII, if dropped it could fire. For this reason the chamber under the hammer should be left empty. It does have a heat treated cylinder and and should be fine with any standard velocity of PlusP ammo. Avoid anything marked +P+ as there is no industry pressure standard for +P+.
Spare parts can be had from www.gunpartscorp.com

Robinett_11B:
Late 1984 seems probable, serial numbers in the AEVxxxx to AFJxxxx range shipped in November of that year.
