bikemutt: 1980. The serial range for that year ended at 91K6800, so quite late in the year. Call it a Christmas gun.

If you dry fire the gun and see sparks come out of the firign pin hole, don't panic. This is a known issue with Centennials and doesn't seem to have any bearing on reliability.
Number on the crane is an assembly number, used to track parts in the factory. It has no meaning now that the gun is assembled.

I just bought a Smith-Wesson 625-8 Performance Center with the serial CRY****. Could anyone help me place the approx date of manufacture?

Also, does anyone else know if the 625 Jerry Miculek grips are any wider and more handfilling that the ugly technicolor grips that come with the gun?

Model 29-3, Serial Is BAR3xxx. blued. I believe it is a 6 1/2 .target sights, 6 shot.

I'm guessing this is your gun.

Thanks Rada, Are you saying that it does or does not have the endurance package, and is so is their some way other than the E that tells me it has the endurance package.

But I did just do a search of S&W Model 36 on Auction Arms and got 13 hits on closed sales in the last 90 days.

So lacking the E I would assume your gun does not have it. When S&W found parts in stock for the old configuration they would ship a gun in that configuration to use up the parts.

Around $350 for a gun in excellent to as new in box condition seems to be about right, based on comments on the forum over the last year or so. Otherwise following RCmodels advice and digging around on the online auction sites is all I can suggest.

Radagast, thanks for the reply (4211) on the Centennial. Re coating, I usually (and in this case) use Breakfree for cleaning. After 13 years, coating probably gone anyway! I just traded a Witness for the 'J' frame, needed a pocket gun!
