Impersonating officers added to charges against pair

Two men arrested in upper Bidwell Park last week on allegations of being drunk in public now face charges of impersonating police officers.

Michael J. Wrobley, 33, and Karsten Dornseif, 26, allegedly attempted to pull over at least one motorist in east Chico about 6 a.m. last Tuesday.

The motorist, an off-duty Cal Fire captain, said the men had a makeshift flashing red light, siren and loudspeaker attached to a sport utility vehicle Wrobley was reportedly driving.

The fire captain slowed for the men on Highway 32, but resumed driving when they allegedly yelled at him to put his hands in the air.

He followed the men as they drove into upper park, then called 9-1-1 to report the incident.

Chico police found Wrobley and Dornseif outside their vehicle, near the gate at the park shooting range.

They were reportedly inebriated and allegedly holding personal Taser stun guns. A .45-caliber ammunition clip was found on the ground, and a search of Wrobel's vehicle turned up a .45-caliber handgun registered to him, as well as a rifle.

Both men hold concealed weapons permits, but Chico police Lt. Mike O'Brien said their alleged state of intoxication invalidated their right to be in possession of firearms. "That's something that's stated right on the permit," O'Brien said.

O'Brien said a loudspeaker and siren device were recovered by officers, but nothing that could have simulated a flashing red light.

The case has been forwarded to the Butte County

District Attorney's office for review.

The defendants remain free on bail, but a technology consulting contract Wrobel had with the town of Paradise has been suspended pending the outcome of the charges against him.

I know a pair who did some similar stuff in daytona a few years back. But it was even more embarrassing, since one was a Commissioned Captain in the USAF and the other was an AFROTC Cadet. They were caught doing 80+ in a 50 zone through Daytona Beach, with lights and sirens rolling on the Cadet's SUV. Both were carrying Airsoft pistols on drop-legs (see, relevance) and were wearing fatigues. The Captain tried to show his Security Forces credentials and told the REAL cops some story about needing to get to the hospital to see a relative. The Captain was well known to be a squirrel and a half (best term i can think of for the High Road), poor officer. The cadet was well known to admire this guy. Both went to jail for a night, don't know the end results.

Hopefully, these idjits will be convicted of some felony that would prevent them from owning any firearms. Help like that we don't need! Little vacation from outside world wouldn't hurt none, either.
