My hunting buddy and I went to our first IDPA shoot this week end. Wow this was so much fun. Has anyone else tried this?

Yeah, I really liked it too...But it was a little like Disney World: wait for an hour for a 15 second ride. I figured the 4 hour match netted me about a minute or so of action/training in total.

That's why I'm an SO/RO. I get to spend all day in the blistering sun shouting at people :)

It all keeps me entertained until it is my time to shoot.

Seriously though, either you need to shoot at small shoots where everyone helps out, or at big slick matches. Anything else is pretty much like Disneyland.

I shoot IDPA when I can. Check out the competition section of this forum if you want more threads related to it.

Really:eek::what::what:

I like our system. We have 4 bays available for all IDPA and we have a pretty big turn out for the monthly matches. It's generally broken up in 3 or 4 groups with an RO in each group. (I'm one of the RO's). There's very little wait time and the smaller groups rotate to each of the other bays. We're usually done by 1pm. :)

Ar10, yeah we normally cycle pretty fast as well. And most of the shouting is done in good humour, except after the buzzer. From then on anything I shout is a command, and you better listen.

Mostly I enjoy the "work" to get the shoot running. Most of the times when I shoot IDPA my muscles are already beginning to shake a little bit from building the ranges. Nothing like muscle fatigue to help you shoot better :)

In all honesty I try get the most out of my IDPA. I work on my inter personal skills, I work on my observation skills, I work on shooting in less than optimal conditions, and I try remove as much gamer element as possible.

I've often had people say stuff like "Why did you waste time reloading there"? Because I'm not meant to know there are 6 more badguys, I'm currently safe and in cover, and I've shot some ammo. Top up.

You can get some good training from IDPA so long as you don't gamer it too much, but yeah, the competition forum is probably where it is at.
