and still got out to hunt birds and ducks i would sure be looking at the Franchi O/U in 20 gauge. LGS had a few in the other day and threw one up to my shoulder in 20ga that literally felt like it was custom built for me. Eye was dead center down the rib every time. Perfect balance and swing for me.

That is a good feeling. Not all guns do that.

Thanks Armored farmer, I won't know now until August 7th, I caught hell just shooting that model 87 Lever action shotgun with really light hand loads.

That's the same way I felt the first time I shouldered a Franchi Renaissance: like it had been custom made exactly for my dimensions! I loved how it handled and balanced and marveled at how well built and finished it was!

I know you started this thread with: "If I was younger...", but you know in this day and age when most guns appear to be made from the same cookie cutting machine that turns out thousands of guns every year, just how refreshing it is to find a beautifully crafted steel and wood stocked O/U shotgun that fits you so perfectly right out of it's case!

That's why when I first went looking for an O/U I checked many of them out first at a very well stocked gun store. I tried the Browning Citori and didn't care for it's dimensions or it's handling dynamics; it was like it was too big and bulky for my build. Same thing with the Remington Model 3200 and the Winchester Model 101; just not a good fit.

The Beretta Model 680, and later a Franchi Renaissance, were both a perfect fit for me right from the start. The first time I brought them up to my shoulder I knew this was what I wanted in an O/U shotgun.

That's why we have different brands. Everyone is build different and what fits one won't fit another. The worst thing I've seen shotgunners do is try to make themselves fit the shotgun not make the shotgun fit them.

Quite true! That use to be my problem, especially with shotguns, back when there weren't that many to choose from. Kind of like you were stuck with a "one size fits all" selection.
