Fill out a witness slip (takes 2 minutes) and OPPOSE this rotten piece of anti-2nd/RKBA legislation---https://my.ilga.gov/WitnessSlip/Create?committeeHearingId=19657&legislationId=0&legislationdocumentid=0&mibextid=S66gvF&fbclid=IwAR3lnV-4c2NzQ0TbAQaTWJ3pnsrRqXGuoHSxRAS2qom48rlXHiYWOzAwIAw

To hear Pritzker talk it's a done deal...very arrogant, cavalier. He went on to say that afterwards going to court would be "Their only recourse...hoping to find a friendly judge". The thing is too that it is a slap-dash and poorly written piece of proposed legislation (technically) with much of it just "cut and pasted" from earlier gun control bills and some Illinois statutes. They don't care and it shows; since FFLs are State Licensed now they EXPECT the edict will be implemented on day one on their end (supply). And as for the citizens who will become criminals overnight...they do not care! They can take it to court! But since this will be like many anti-gun bills in IL that become law---never or seldom enforced but intended to "message" a constituency that supports them---a wait for the right kind of test case may be a while and it might require someone to be charged, to have standing. Keep spreading the word and pass the witness slip around! Thanks Again!

Patriots,

We have been telling you the dangers of the growing number of anti-2nd Amendment politicians in Springfield. Now they proved us right when they filed HB5855 with the full support of the most anti-gun Governor this state has ever seen, Gov. Pritzker.

The ISRA Legal Assistance Committee needs your support NOW so we are ready to stop this gun control legislation in the courts. Click here to make a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation of $50, $100, $250, $1000 or as much as you can to ensure we have the resources to defend your rights. Even a donation of $10 or $20 will help our cause!

The proposed legislation, which could be voted on as soon as January, would ban many common semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns along with any magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds, including any magazine for your handguns. The legislation will also prevent any person under 21 from receiving a FOID card unless they are in the military.

The anti-gun crowd’s agenda has always been to incrementally peal back the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Illinois citizens. HB5855 forces you to register many common firearms with the government, including those already owned. Registration is always a prelude to confiscation.

There will be no negotiations on this piece of legislation, and the ISRA Legal Assistance Committee will see the State of Illinois in court should this bill be enacted into law.

But we can’t do that without your help. Lawyers and court fees are expensive, and we need to make sure are able to pay those bills. Click here TODAY to make a donation of $50, $100, $250 or $1000 to make sure the ISRA LAC has the resources we need to stop HB5855 and the gun-control agenda in Illinois.

Okay, for the benefit of anyone who doesn't know about this bill, and since no one posting in the thread had yet provided a synopsis of the bill:

HB 5855 -

- Bans the sale and possession of semi-automatic, centerfire, magazine-fed rifles. This includes all AR/AK pattern rifles and pistols. HB 5855, also, includes a provision for the registration of existing rifles.

- Bans magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

- Bans 18 - 20 years old from obtaining a state Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card.

- Bans .50 BMG rifles and ammunition.

- Expands the State's firearm restraining order by increasing it from 6 to 12 months.

- Severely restricts hunting for anyone under 21.

I have a couple immediate family members (mother and a sister) residing in Illinois, so I have occasion to travel there at least four times or more a year. Although covered by LEOSA, the magazine capacity restriction will effect me, so even as a non-resident, I am impacted by this potential law. Of course, IL doesn't recognize any other state's licenses, with no reciprocity with any state, so shame on IL for that. For the hunters, I would guess (?) that perhaps Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan will benefit with even more Illinois hunters crossing state lines during whitetail season.

It would seem that Illinois' state legislature has been emboldened by the recent anti-gun legislative successes - as well as ballot initiatives and gubernatorial executive action - in Washington, Oregon, California, New York, et al. Shame. While we've all been patting ourselves on the back for the past few years, thinking that the RKBA/2A rights continue to expand nationwide, post-Bruen, that's not proving to be the case.

One possible attack against this bill is to point at the impact to hunters, wildlife management, and losses in funding from the inevitable reduction in in-state and out-of-state hunting licenses.

True...and the fact that if passed it would preclude young hunters from hunting without an adult guardian with a FOID and have a chilling effect on them ever developing an interest in the sport to begin with. Our daughters have had FOID cards since ages 8 & 10 and they are just up for renewal now with the girls being 18 & (almost) 20. They still need a signed affidavit from me (or Mom) to renew, which makes me liable for their misuse of a firearm---yet this isn't "Good Enough" any longer? Madness.

And as Jeff White suggested, donate funds for this fight and join the ISRA!

Next committee hearing is Tuesday(20th). I listened to the last one and at one point the entire panel confirmed on record that the bill won't do anything to stop crime. They also showed thier colors by how they questioned those giving statements opposing the bill.

Witness slips for the hearing today are needed (click here)

Additionally, send emails and call reps. If nothing else it will tell them the number of oppositions to it and you can have on record what thier responses are. There are multiple threads on Reddit talking about the reps who responded as well as those who went to the Meetings in person and took notes.

File witness slips for all three of the committee hearings, including tomorrow's. Con vs. Pro on all three batches have been running 2-2.5 to 1 but you know they just "thumb their noses" at us.

It's unfortunate that they won't listen. It's all part of the narrative they are trying to push. Feel good laws have not been productive. History can speak for itself.

Your representative finder is missing. This is where I went to find mine.

So far I see opposition witness slips vastly outnumbers those who support the bill. Keep it up and put the pressure on your reps to oppose! Make sure to include any reps who will be sworn in next week. They need to be informed and put on notice!

Goes to the Senate tonight. They are playing the usual games with changing the bill they put it in so people don't know which legislation to contact their senator about:
ISRA Legislative Alert

The situation is highly volatile. Bill numbers and content are changing by the hour. Please call your Senator NOW to let them know any firearm bill rushed through in the 11th hour will make Illinois less safe and that we are all watching.

Your Senator is at the Capitol now. It is urgent you call your Senator at their Springfield office immediately to voice your concerns.

Here is the link to help you find your State Senator's Springfield Office Information:

FIND YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS HERE

We will continue to update you in real time as legislation changes. Details of the bill will follow. Please follow the lead of the ISRA and respond to each call to action.

The senate adjourned without taking action and Pritzker is pissed:

End of Evening Update - Ramping Up Calls to Pritzker

We have just learned that no more legislative action will be taken this evening. It will be taken up in the Senate’s Executive Committee Monday at 9 AM.

While the ISRA will not negotiate away the importance of the Second Amendment, we appreciate the fact that the Senate is taking a longer look at important legislation that negatively affects the nearly 2.5 million legal firearm owners in our state.

Despite the Senate’s diligent approach, Governor Pritzker condemned it by issuing a statement that was found on CapitolFax.com:
“Every time a weapon of war is used to inflict the maximum amount of damage in the shortest amount of time, we mourn for the lives lost and communities shattered."

“Enough is enough."

“The people of this state deserve a real assault weapons ban, one that has a real accounting of the weapons currently in circulation and a real chance at ceasing the flow of more weapons of war immediately. We need a bill that meets the urgency of now, and the current version in the Senate falls short.”

Enough is enough. Start calling Governor Pritzker’s office at 217-782-6830 or 217-782-6831 to voice your concern for our constitutional rights. And please keep the calls going to your Senator’s office in Springfield.

Our ISRA lobbyists have been on the front line of all developments today and will continue to work the phones throughout the evening. Legislation like this does not go to sleep, nor does the ISRA.

We salute our strong and dedicated members of the ISRA. It is CRITICAL that we keep informing as many people as possible about calling Governor Pritzker’s office and our Senators.

We will send out updates in the morning as we have them.

Sincerely,

Call your senator now!
THE VOTE IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE AND YOUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS ARE AT STAKE—
AND MORE!

The bill before the Senate is becoming even more offensive to 2nd Amendment supporters. This isn’t just an “assault weapons” ban, the anti-gun politicians want to take away your grand-daddy’s shotgun like the commonly used Remington 1100.

The Illinois Senate is hell-bent on passing a clearly unconstitutional piece of legislation (HB 5471) changing every aspect of firearm ownership in Illinois. This is a bill the Governor will sign.

With a vote anticipated at 1 PM, all firearm owners across Illinois and supporters need to act now.

Your local Senator is at the State Capitol now. It is urgent you call your Senator at their Springfield office immediately! Let them know any firearm bill rushed through in the 11th hour will make Illinois less safe and that we are all watching.

If you can't get through to your Senator, please keep calling.

The ISRA will continue to update you and final details of the bill will follow.

Thank you,

They passed it in the Senate looks like we’re going to court:

THE BATTLE TO PRESERVE FIREARM RIGHTS FOR LAW-ABIDING ILLINOISANS MOVES BACK TO THE HOUSE

ILLINOIS SENATE PASSES HB 5471 AMENDMENT 3
“Tyranny,” said Sen. Bailey.

“Resign now," proclaimed Sen. Anderson. That was his message to all of his colleagues who voted for this bill. Here is a link to how each one voted: https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/votehistory/102/senate/10200HB5471_01092023_010000T.pdf

The bill now goes back to the House for concurrence.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN. Please call your representative in the Springfield office NOW.

If this bill is signed by the Governor, the ISRA will file a lawsuit and continue to fight for our 2A rights.

The ISRA will not give up!

Thank You,

This is going to be expensive. Now is the time to send whatever you can afford to the link I posted in post #10. If you aren't an ISRA member please join. It's $35 a year and you can sign up online now. While there is a good possibility other cases in Washington, Oregon and New Jersey and New York will provide precedent for us but none of those states are in the 7th Circuit. We can hope that the Supreme Court slaps one of those states down soon but we can't count on this.

I am saddened by this turn of events in Illinois. Aside from the fact that one of my parents grew up there and I still have family members living there, I travel back that way often and consider Chicago a hometown (yes, I detest the city's politics, crime and corruption, but it's still one of the country's most interesting cities with a multitude of cultural attractions not to mention, it's an awesome sports town and has great dining).

What those who don't live in the confines of the 7th Circuit -- and I don't have confidence that this legislation will be overturned -- should keep in mind is that other states such as Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, New Jersey and New York are closely watching and we will see the same legislation replicated over and over again in all of the blue states.

So, nationwide, it's in our best interests to support our brothers and sisters in Illinois to the extent possible.
