I hope and pray that there will be no renewed assault weapon ban and I am actively opposing the renewal. However if there was to be another I want to buy a second AR within the next year or so. I will be stuck in law school for starting next fall for 3 to 4 years and will have a limited budget. I already have a 16" M4rgery by Doublestar and want to pick up a different style AR.
My Doublestar was either an A2 or A3 at one time, but the previous owner slapped on a beat up old A1 upper reciever before selling it (still has the 1in9 twist barrel with A2 front sight). I plan to add an A3 flattop to it sometime soon with a detachable carry handle. In the future this will be my "tacticool" AR, and I will add the flashlight, Aimpoint, rails, or whatever tickles my fancy.
If I could have only one AR to fit a different niche, what would you pick from the following.
1. Dissipator: This is my favorite choice, and it would be my no frills rifle. I like the idea of a fixed A2 upper reciever and the longer sight radius of a 20", but the manueverability of a 16".
2. 18": This rifle would give me increased accuracy for "long distance calling" while still maintaining some of the manueverability compared to the 20". I'd get a flattop and carry handle for now and latter equip it with a scope and flip down sights, or the Aimpoint Comp and Magnifier combo, or an ACOG.
3. 20": This rifle would serve as either a competition rifle (like a National Match variant) or a long range precision rifle. Furniture would change depending upon its role so it would also be a flattop with the carry handle initially.
Anyway thanks for in advance for chiming in.
