Does this have any influence on what you plan to keep?

My only older types are the WW2 Mauser Hsc, and Sauer 38H.
The others are three mil. Makarovs, plus a commercial Russian Mak. and Czech CZ-82, which is for sale, local only (west TN).

At least the Maks won't lose much value from fairly freq. use.

What I plan to keep are the ones I like to shoot the most, and some that I just like a lot.

I have never shown anyone my collection for no other reasons than 1) most of my friends are more liberal and would not understand and 2) I'd feel I was bragging and that's not my style and 3) people in both groups wouldn't know I have multiple guns to even ask "may I see your collection?".

So, no. Purely for my own enjoyment and the prospect of passing down quality arms.

+1

I'm not one of those to throw around the fact that I own guns at work. It's a sensitive issue, and only my closest friends end up knowing, as my closest friends are fellow shooters. :)

Nobody else even knows exactly what my collection (I use that term loosely, I don't have much) entails.

I fail to see why it would. I don't really understand the question. Who buys firearms based on other people seeing them?

Perhaps like a BBQ gun who's only function is to look shiny on special occasions?

I certainly don't factor in anyone other than myself when making a firearm purchase or how to build my collection.

Funny I'm not a collector but I can understand if someone put together a comprehensive collection with a lot of research on a well defined subject then wanting to not only display but explain their collection.

But I would guess my definition of "collection" is different from others.

I prefer others not even know what I have. This is a private hobby for my enjoyment.

I'm in total agreement. I buy what I like and keep what I shoot. I'm thinking about thinning out the herd but every time I take something out to sell I put it back in the safe. :banghead:

When I do sell none of my revolvers or leverguns are going. My 1911 stays as does the Garand, M1903 and M1917 military rifles. Oh yeah, and the Trapdoor stays... and the, and the other, well, you see my dilemma.

Even I don't get to see my own collection enough. One time I was in search of an odd ball gen 3 S&W 39XX variant that I wasn't even sure existed. The next day I found one in my safe behind some Glocks

My collection is for my pleasure and enjoyment only. I don't care what other may think about the guns I have as I'm quite sure they don't care what I think about the guns they own.

No.
Nobody is going to be impressed with 3rd Gen Glocks that have the finger grooves removed.
I have a Dan Wesson Valor, Les Baer UTC and Ed Brown Special Forces, but I keep them because I like them, not to impress anyone.

I buy and collect my guns for me.

However, I also enjoy putting up (what I would call educational) displays at local shows.
Attempting to share the enjoyment of collections with others, and having some express it with a 'thank you'
(especially the younger teens and youngsters who had been looking at nothing but newer stuff. Maybe, just maybe the displays broadened their interest.)
makes the trouble, time, and money involved in building and setting up the displays all worthwhile to me.
To me, sharing something with others is not bragging or showing off .

But then I am the same way when shooting at the range.
If someone expresses interest in something (and asks. I never offer or say 'here shoot this'), I am more than
willing to let them handle and fire said gun, even though it cuts into my shooting time.

LOL! CDW,

I did the exact same thing with my Glock 17.

Actually got it without ever having handled a 3rd Gen. Glock .
I thought those finger grooves would really give me a grip, but
all they did was pinch my fingers into an uncomfortable angle.

Took it out shooting with the finger grooves once.
Did not like it a bit.

10 minutes on the belt sander fixed all of that.

No. I do not need others validation. My guns, like my finances are my personal business.
