If There Were No Antis What Gun Laws Would You Have?

Huh? What registration? I would oppose ANY registration, for ANY purpose.

No system is perfect, including my proposed system. But mine is a lot less restrictive than current law.

Well, it should make sense that "Duke the Gun Nut" will act and talk differently than "Duke the Wine Connoissoir", "Duke the Journalist", "Duke the Civic Leader" or "Duke the Battlefield Excavator."
Just went from interesting to intriguing. ;)

Looky looky, I can play with words too. Do I get an "A" in Make it up 101 teach?

Titan: "God help your clients. They will need it during the sentencing when the get the maximum."

What the heck is this all about?

You indicated earlier that you were a lawyer. If you argue in court the way you present here I can't see how you would win many cases.

I can't help you with your faulty powers of perception.

What do you do for a living?

Walkalong: "Looky looky, I can play with words too."

What do you suppose a discussion like this is all about? I mean, it's not like we are debating headspace measurement.

Firearms sales only to those 18 and over. All firearms, all ammunition, 18 and over. That is the only "gun law" I would have.

You know Duke, your way of thinking is a perfect example of why we have so many gun laws in this country. You call yourself a "libertarian gun nut." Right. You want a certain amount of laws in place, as long as they suit YOU, forget about future generations right? A slippery, slippery slope my amigo. As more and more people pour into this country, there is inevitably going to be more gun laws. But if this increase of laws coincides with a drop in crime, it's o.k. right (even if guns aren't causing crime)? Libertarian...HA. Fifty years ago, this manner of thinking wouldn't be moderate on a good day.

But don't mind me. You've obviously taken a stance. Just remember...you give a politician an inch and they'll take a yard. Little here, little there...oops! No more guns...

jf: "Without registration you wouldn't be able to prove who illegally sold a gun. So your gun laws would be moot."

To the contrary, private sellers are prosecuted all the time for gun transaction crimes, without registration.

deacon8: "A slippery, slippery slope my amigo."

Go back to page 1 and re-read the original posted question and my response. The original poster posited the lack of a slippery slope.

Sorry Deacon8, but Duke is right on this one

You'd have no way to prove where the gun came from. So there would be no case for an illegal sale. Plus all of your "reasonable" laws are unconstitutional.

Sorry, I "posited" that we were all living in reality here. I'll rephrase what I said before so nobody finds a loophole.

I like your original response to the original poster...a list of nonoriginal, looney-laws. No possession of handguns under 21? What the hell does that do? And forget all the others...

But don't mind me. You've obviously taken a stance. Just remember, until the constitution is amended, there CAN'T legally be federal firearms laws. No slippery slopes huh, then tell me how your list even works..."

Oh, for crying out loud. Then the entire current system is un-Constitutional, too. I thought we were dealing with what we'd like to see, anyway.

And you certainly could prove illegal transfer; happens all the time.

deacon8: "Just remember, until the constitution is amended, there CAN'T legally be federal firearms laws."

I assume you believe that all broadcasting rules are un-Constitutional under the First Amendment.

And that military housing assistance is un-Constitutional under the Third Amendment.

Gentleman, this was a fascinating discussion, however, as we're not likely to run out of people interested in gun control in the near future and we just seem to be going in circles, it's time to put this one to bed. If we find ourselves in a situation with no one trying to pass any gun control legislation for a couple of years, let me know and I'll reopen it.

Thanks for your cooperation.
