If we adopt the XM8, will there be any semiautomatic version?

I have seen one of these at a couple of localgunstores and handled them, but they dont sell very well for obvious reasons, such as price, sights and magazine capacity.

If by sights you mean "Looked butt ugly" I agree with this. I had this discussion on another board and someone jokingly put together this image when discussing a civilian version of the XM8. Somehow I do not think it is too far off.

Maybe the XM-8 is a great rifle, But I don't see what capabilities it is delivering that the M16 is not. I have no axe to grind, but if you are going to roll out a new weapons system that is so similar in capabilities, there should be a marked improvement from the previous platform.

Am I missing something?
