If you lived in a place and could (and would) open carry, would you spend more money on a fancy carry gun? Would you step up your belt/holster combination? Would you carry a Les Baer/Ed Brown etc... instead of a basic Springer or Kimber or even Glock?

Feel free to post your Open Carry Pics

No. I'm not fond of bling, and too much display could make you a target for organized criminals.

IMHO open carry is great as a "political statement" but tactically, make mine concealed unless I'm actually being paid to carry a gun - a job I wouldn't really want.

Wally - appreciate what you are saying, however, I dont want this thread to get into a debate of if its good or not to open carry. I just want to know if open carry causes people to spend more money on carry guns and holsters.

In Texas....we have no choice anyway.

I live in Indiana, so I could technically open carry, we are issued a LTCH.
I have open carried with no problems, but 95% of the time I conceal.

I would not buy a fancy gun just for show, my guns are tools and I like to keep things simple and practical. Fancy grips, maybe.....

I do open carry, & went out & bought a holster & belt better suited for oc than my current setup. Still nothing fancy though. I carry an XD45 in a Blackhawk Serpa holster on a 5.11 Trainer belt. I use the belt all the time, & the holster when ocing.

NO! Never, if i'm not in a uniform, I want to be left alone. The BG won't be sporting (ok, some would), but no way would I ever want my element of suprise taken away, nor would I want to give the little old grandma standing behind me in the local wallmart a reason to feel unsafe.

Off-topic. This has been argued back and forth for ages. The OP is assuming everybody posting in this thread has gotten over this....

I would have to say no since I prefer an inexpensive line of holsters anyway. Form and function over bling and showboating, for me anyday. It just has to work.

Open carry is legal where I live. I do o/c once in a while. Normally in the woods, but sometimes "just because I can." Nothing special, just a blue 6" .357 Colt Mk3 Trooper in a leather Bianchi holster.

Why spend money you dont have to?
I see no relation between open carry and and high dollar guns.
I have friends that CC $2000 STi pistols whats the diffrence?

To the OP what are you getting at in this discussion?

Would depend on occasion and perceived need. What I would wear in the woods would be different from what I wear to church, on walks in the evening, etc.

Moot question in this here People's Republic anyway.

Hard to say, as sometimes you never really know until you are in that situation. My guess would be no though. Probably still be carrying a black gun in the same or similar holster(s) and belt. I believe in good quality carry gear regardless of who sees it.

if i could, i dunno would be cool to have a nice 1911 or something.

of course a glock 17 or maybe some other nice looking gun would be cool too. but i probably wouldnt buy a new gun especially for it.

If I was in an area where open carry was acceptable, then YES! I'd definately spend some dough on an embossed leather holster and a fancy 1911 with burled walnut stocks. Casual events would bring out a p232 with wood grips in a plain brown holster, and physical activity would call for a Makarov in kydex.

If open carry was the norm, I'd want to look GOOD!

Open carry is not the norm here, though. In fact, I've never seen a single person (non-leo) open carrying a pistol! If I were to open carry around here, I would likely select my firearm based on appearance alone. I would specifically try to find something that looks non-threatening to the sheeple.

Revolvers scare sheeple less than black polymer semi-autos do. An engraved firearm looks more like a family heirloom than a weapon to them. Cosmetic appearances are a big deal to those who aren't familiar with firearms.

I had joked about carrying this openly on a previous thread:

I'd really be curious to see sheeple's reaction to a pink firearm, though. I just imagine that sheeple would find it so unusual, and so non-threatening, that they would forget to panic, and begin asking questions instead. It might actually be a good conversation starter.

Is that a real gun?
Yes, it sure is.
Why is it pink?
I bought it for my wife, but she prefers that I carry it when we are together.
Why do you need a gun?
Because police response times can be up to 15 minutes in this area, and my chances of becomming a victim of violent crime are better than my chances of winning the lottery... 12 out of 1000.
Wow, the crime rate is that high?
Yeah, its scary... this pistol makes us more comfortable.
Don't you need special training?
No, a permit to carry is really easy to get if you have a clean record... I'd recommend training just to help you be safe, and to learn when its legal and ethical to use a firearm.
When is it legal?
When my live is in immediate danger, and I cannot otherwise escape. Obviously, I don't ever want to use it... I don't dream of being in the Wild Wild West... but its a comforting thing to have, at times.
Wow, that's really not scary at all...

No "Pink Pistols" jokes please... I'm straight... its for my wife, honest!

I wouldn't upgrade my holster or pistol if I chose to carry unconcealed. Even if it were legal in Texas, I doubt I'd open carry very much anyway. I don't care to draw attention to myself in public.

I do open carry. A stock XD9, with the double mag holder on the left and the stock XD holster on the right. I plan on buying a more comfortable holster, but other than that I see no reason to carry a high cost weapon. (Open carry IMO, causes the gun to be more prone to scratches anyway)

If I was able to open carry I absolutely would. If I were open carrying I would do my best to look good during the process.

I'm thinking a nice satin stainless 1911 with custom grips (maybe even two tone controls for the contrast effect). A nice Black or brown (to match my belt and shoes) custom leather holster and mag pouch.

Frankly, I dress nicely every day and take pride in the fact that I look squared away on any given occasion. No sense in ruining the whole thing with a black block in a nylon sock hangin' on one's trousers, now is there?

The only time I open carry is hiking in the back-country or while hunting.
Concealed is my 'Ace in the Hole'.

I believe it is legal to open carry in most areas, but why would ya?
A trainer once told me that open carry, although legal, can get LEO on your case for being a nuisance or disturbing peace, because it just takes one person to whine about it.
People get freaked and call the cops that "Some guy has a gun!!" and then you get bothered by LEO to either leave the place or put the gun away even though it is legal.
