If, you could have only one shotgun...

It's not very nice to ask a parent to choose a favorite kid.

Right now I use the Super Nova more than the 391. I prefer it for hunting but if I could only have one, I'd probably choose the 391. It's better for clay games and I could still use it for hunting.

Spec, an old thread here titled "Some Pics" has a shot of Frankenstein. The stock's different now, that Monte Carlo one went to a friend to help his 16" plus LOP needs.

The forearm finish doesn't match the stock, the barrels (either the cut down Express barrel or the Bright Blue LC one) do not match the Parkerized reciever which doesn't match the action bars nor the trigger group.

But it works perfectly,a junkyard mutt that performs like a Thoroughbred.....

Ted Williams M200 with a poly choke on it. I can shoot foster slugs out of it accurately to 100 yards and I can dial up what ever spread I want on my pattern for bird shot. It's easy to carry and quick to point. It has killed more ruffed grouse and deer than any other weapon I have. Out of my 16 other guns it is my "go to" gun. The pump action is lightening fast....almost as fast as a semi-auto. It was manufactured by Winchester and is what I think was the Winchester model 1300. It has been an excellent gun.

Just bought a Mossberg 500. It is a camo finished model, came with a vent rib barrel and 3 chokes, a turkey barrel in X-full with fiber optic sights, and a cantilever slug barrel. It is definately a candidate as a one shotgun option. I plan on using this shotgun solely for a year, and see if it can do it all. I will use the shorter turkey barrel for home defense, rather than purchase another barrel for it. A package deal like this, goes a long way to making one shotgun a do it all gun.

I should say my 870, that would be the logical choice. But for me it would have to be my oldest 311. Been shooting it for 25 years. I've killed deer I've killed barn rats and I've killed pretty much anything in between. It works well enough to give me 20+ on the skeet feild, even with it's full/not quite as full chokes. I figure that the last shotgun round I fire will run thru one of its barrels, hopefully a few years from now.

Spec, and you mean that in the nicest way, right?

Despite its cosmetic irregularities, it works very well. Maybe 20 present and past members here and at THR used it for Shotgun 101.

I've killed plenty of geese, etc with it. And while I like ALL my shotguns, that's the only one I've built......

Capstick1 - "This is about like asking Hugh Hefner which of his playmates are his favorite."

I vote the BEST response of all!!! LOLOL... :)

The only shotgun I have is a Mossberg 590 series with the heavy wall barrel. Why I selected that model was the position of the safety, slide release, and the magazine capacity. I made certain modifications replaced the OEM safety button with a more aggressive style to prevent finger slippage, Meprolight front sight bead, SS magazine follower, and a receiver mounted saddle shell carrier.

I’ve had one minor problem with it. The dual extractor system the extractor (opposite the ejection port) retainer pin broke freeing the extractor piece to fall out. I replaced the sheared OEM pin with drill stock. Even with only one functioning extractor there were no functionality problems.

For me, it would be a Mossberg 500. Reliable and I love the position of tang safety. Any model that's been around for 50+ years is likely going to be a good one.

Remington 870 Express Super Mag. From 2 3/4" bird loads to 3 1/2" 00 buck, it'll handle them. That covers most any application that I would need
