    I love hypothetical threads...

Do you own any handguns that you concealed carry and would hunt with? Let's say you can only own one handgun and want to both carry it but still be able to do ALL your hunting with it. What would you pick?

I have had a Ruger SP101 357 "Kit Gun" with a 4.2" barrel for a few years now and it would be just about perfect for everything I do. Just about means I can conceal it with jeans and a jacket and I can definitely small game hunt (out to maybe 20 yards) and big game hunt (Whitetail deer comfortably to 35-40 yards). Definitely not perfect for any of those things though.

    What would you pick?

Sig Sauer P226. I can put a variety of slides and barrels in to go between .22, 9mm, .357sig and .40 S&W.

For what you are asking a 4" .357 would probably be the best choice, it would be hard for me to imagine a more versatile handgun. I don't happen to own one at the moment, so if I were forced to pick from my current collection it would be a government model 1911 in .45ACP, it would do OK on small game out to 25 yds or so, and with RN bullets probably not destroy too much meat, and out to maybe 50 yds it should drop the small deer that inhabit my part of the world. It would suck to be limited to that though!

Dan Wesson 15-2 with 2.5" bbl for carry and 4" or 6" bbl for hunting.

    From the guns I have, a 4" S&W M686.

BUT, I like the muti-barrel choice "ugaarguy" posted.

I've carried it some, but it's a bit bulky unless under a jacket, but my G20 should be adequate for hunting, at least for anything that lives around here.

    I guess my 3 inch GP-100.

Fixed sights, shoots dead on, zero-zero tolerance, and well a great DA action to.

I would go with a 4in .357. .38's are great for small game and .357 will take anything where I live. Plus, very well proven for protection.

The Glock 20, also mentioned, is great if you need more power and can carry it.

Having a .45 with a .22 upper would also be a good option.

I figure I'd shoot it much more often hunting than for defense and would up the caliber some...a 41 mag, 44 special, or 45 colt in something with a small frame like a FA 97. I could live with a 4", but would pick a 5" if I thought I could conceal it easily enough.

My state says 5" barrel minim for deer hunting, so my hunting gun is a 5.5" Blackhawk in .45C/.45acp, I think I could make it work for CC, it's definitely something I enjoy shooting.

I don't hunt so I'd stick with the Glock 26 as it is the gun I would pick if I could only have one gun.

But assuming I wanted to do some limited handgun hunting with the same gun I would pick a Glock 29. However, that would require either spending more money due to the cost of ammo (even if you reload, 10mm is still more expensive than 9mm) or skirting the whole point of '1 gun' by getting the barrels/magazines required to utilize multiple calibers/cartridges in that one gun.

It's a tough question because I actually carry the gun all day every day and I know concealing a Glock 20 or a 4" .357 every single day is something far more people think about in theory than actually do.

SIG P229 in .357SIG/.40 S&W...all it takes is a barrel swap to specialize for a particular use.

Then how about a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm!

Use 10mm 'lite' for self defense and full bore 10mm for hunting.

4" 357, probably my GP100, best all around handgun.

How do you conceal it during the summer?

What grips? (I'm assuming the trick is small grips?)

I dont have one but I would guess it would be a Dan Wesson revolver with replaceable barrels. I believe the .44 would be just right: specials for carry and magnums for hunting/outdoors.

Smith and Wesson model 651 .22 magnum 4 inch kit gun. When you say carry and hunting, I think of this gun. I shoot a lot more small game with my pistol than say deer. I carry it at all time when I am outdoors. It has literally fed me. More squirrels and grouse than you would believe. I have it on me when I am fly fishing or in my pack when driving through the woods to do anything.

From what I currently have I would say either a S&W Model 686 with a 4" barrel or else a Colt Commander in .38 Super. If I were buying something to fulfill this dual purpose role I would go with a Dan Wesson Pistol Pac or a Colt Delta Elite, along with a .22LR conversion assembly.

.67 smooth bore flintlock pistol with a belt hook, that I built back in the 1970s.

Hey......this is a silly hypothetical thing, right?

My Colt SAA in .45 Colt. It's the last handgun I'd ever get rid of.

I really don't have a gun that fits this. I guess my 5" 1911 with some warm ammo would work, but it certainly isn't ideal. A 460 Roland kit would help.

I guess I could try and conceal my 5" 460 magnum, plus I'd always have a hammer on hand, but...........

"Is that a 460 mag in your waistband, or are you just happy to see me?"
