Yes.

The C&R license only allows you to purchase C&R weapons with your 03 FFL. Anything non-C&R will have to be done through an 01 FFL as usual.

In other words, you get back ground checked to get the 03 FFL, does that suffice for background checks, like a CCW permit in some states?

I am a C$R licensee. No the dollar sign isn't a mistake.

All a C&R license gets you is the ability to buy C&R firearms directly and have them delivered directly to your license address without doing a form 4473 transfer via a FFL. To purchase a non-C&R weapon you will have to fill out a 4473 and submit to a NICS check. In other words your just like everyone else.

ETA: A C&R is not a license to do business. It is strictly a collectors license.

Hi there,

Actually your topic was an item in the last ATF newsletter I recieved and I am a Curio and Relic License Holder.

The answer to your question is yes, I still have to go through the NCIS background check and fill out a 4473 on all firearms transactions through a regular '01 FFL Dealer.

However, I am also a CWP holder and do not have to have the information called in to NCIS on a firearms purchase as my CWP is my "background" check. That part is kind of nice. I still have to fill out ATF form 4473.

The C&R License essentially allows me to purchase C&R firearms directly from the wholesaler or private seller across state lines.

Using your CWP to get around the NICS check does not apply in all states. I cannot use mine to forgo a NICS check. It depends on the state.
