The paperclip is for the Ultra series of pistols with the dual recoil spring and the tiny hole in the forward guide rod into which you place the paperclip to trap the recoil spring for takedown. I don't recall it being used for the Pro series, and it was not part of the full-size series.

The NDZ take down tool is ridiculously expensive, $70, but you get free shipping, though you should expect delays. Apparently, it is ONLY for the Pro series, not Ultra series.

When i ordered the two tools. One long for take down and one short for taking the spring apart it only cost me like $20 shipped from NDZ performance and that was less then two months ago. Great product and worth every penny.

Good grief. I bent a piece of wire into an "L" shape and it works great for a Kimber Pro Carry. Cheap, too.

Paperclips are the basis for great tools the world over. I don't own a Kimber, yet, but here's my Ruger .22LR Semi Automatic Pistol Disassembly/Reassembly Tool.

Since the box of paper clips is so old it's falling apart, I have no memory of what this thing might cost. But for $70 I can likely supply the Eastern Seaboard if I needed to.

I had a dawson precision tool less guide rod and I really liked it. To be honest though, it came in a used 1911 I bought. Paper clips have always worked fine for me.

Man only needs duct tape to hold things so they don't move, wd40 to move things that wont move and paper clips to hold the two together.

I have a full size Kimber and the first thing I did was change out the full leingth guide rod for a military surplus assembly. Full leingth guide rod is a solution looking for a problem.

I need to use a bent paper clip or similar to disassemble my Kimber Stainless Pro Raptor II (4" model) which only has one recoil spring.

I don't plan on buying that NDZ kit.

I took a piece of scrap 5/16 steel tubular brake line, cut it to length, flared one end slightly, then cut a channel in it with a dremel. Works just like the NDZ tool and only cost a few minutes time. I still use the L-shaped paper clip thing most of the time though.
