Gentleman,

First off let me just say that I'm not interested in your DMPS or other competitors rifle. So if you are coming in looking to tell me about your DMPS or other brand I'm not interested. I want the thread to stick to ARMALITES and more specifically the carbines.

I already have a Armalite AR-10 and was thinking of moving into a carbine version. If you own one of these rifles or have owned one can you give me your honest opinions and impressions?

Thanks
Mike

My AR-10 Carbine with a 16-inch stainless steel barrel is the most accurate rifle I own. It is also the most unreliable rifle I own. I've been battling that thing for seven years now, including one trip back to ArmaLite and several trips to local gunsmiths. Tried many mags of various generations and lots of different ammo. It still doesn't work reliably. My M-15 (AR-15) on the other hand is a dream so don't assume I'm an ArmaLite hater. Just reporting the facts, as you asked.

Armalite carbine

had one very accurate but as above poster said "Jammin mag problem." Tried many different mags, the one that came with it seemed the only one that would make it 2 rounds in a row without the round jammin into the feed ramp. Finally after a small fortune in mags a friend bought it to try his hand at it. Not sure but it might have went back to factroy.

I own the 20" version, not the carbine.
It has been 100% reliable with Armalite mags and is as accurate as I can shoot with a Trijicon "Reflex" (no magnification).

Hmm.....I'm hoping that your accounts are from some of the early versions of the rifle and not a continuing trend. Thats interesting to say the least. Theres a few youtube videos of people shooting the little carbines and they seem to work just fine.

I have a standard 20 and a standard 16 and they both shoot about 1.5 and I have never had a FTE/FTF with either one. I have had 308s in FALs, M1As,Saigas,and PTRs and found the AR-10 as the most versatile platform for my taste. I only use factory Rem/Win ammo and dont go blasting with them. The target modes are heavy so I bought an A2 stocked lower and a 16 in. A4 upper to create my perfect handling carbine. It has a 1.5x6 Burris on it for optical versatility.

Thanks for all the feedback. Please keep it coming. I found a thread at the firing line where a few guys with carbines have had perfect shooting rifles. I'm getting ready to buy one so I want the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I know maint is critical to keeping a good shooting AR10.
