If you were called to defend your town...

I would take my scoped savage 30-06 and a pistol of some sort. But if I was in a militia I would tell my grandfather and we would convert his Jeep Cherokee so that we could store my guns and a lot of his guns in it. It would be like a Humvee.

I got that, Matt. :) I was just seeing your M60 and raising you 11 pounds! :D It was hell.

*checks cards*...

I fold! :p
'll bet it was hell. I watched some of the infantry guys ruck in/about JRTC and Northern Edge, and I must admit, I was not envious. I let them cut ahead in the chow line when they ended up 'deceased'.

Bubba'ed SKS with red-dot scope. Keep the 10 or 20 round mag in it and top-load with stripper clips. They're lighter than those @#$% Hi-Tec 30-rounders. The other option is a CETME with a battle-pack of 7.62x51 in mags.

Sidearm, I'd go with the 1911 or possibly the P38. I've got about the same amount of mags for both.

It's not too theoretical at my place. I live within cannon range of the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. There's a major gang war going on there, with territorial battles, kidnapping for ransom and for sale, and frequent murders of public officials (two or three police chiefs in the last five years).
In case of a militia call-up, I would distribute most of my collection of MBRs, hunting rifles, and sidearms to my neighbors who are mostly retired military and LEOs.
I would keep a WASR-10 and a scoped Lee Enfield for myself and an SKS for my sister.

I heard about the bad border crap going on down there with the gangs and how there are a lot of local militias assisting the border patrol. I wonder why none of it makes the news? Hmm I find it interesting ... the real important stuff doesnt make it to the news because they want us to be good sheeple and think that everything is ok lol. We were always told in the Armed Forces that each day we DONT make it in the news is a day we have WON. The gang war down there is getting pretty bad and if anything - we need more militias patrolling down there.

Rem 870 slug gun + 50 rounds buckshot and 50 slugs in bandoleers

Saiga .223 +350 rounds in mags/pouches

Ruger p95 +5 mags + 100 rounds

Walther P22 + 200 rounds (pocket gun backup)

big fooken knife and small really fooken sharp knife

Around here a disaster relief situation is much more likely than an all-out battle, so my Winchester 1866 replica in .38 Special would do, or the SKS if I need it, with a modest amount of ammo. My sidearm would be the same thing I always carry, a S&W Model 59.

OK, as an exercise in fantasy:
My M1A with 5 magazines +200 rounds
My 870 with 50 rounds of 00 buck and 20 slugs
My Glock 21 with 5 magazines +200 rounds
A wheelbarrow with another 1,000 rounds for each gun:)

AR15-A2 w/ ten 30 rounders
1911 w/ my 4 mags

Garand for shooting out of the windows at home, with my crate of HXP surplus ammo. Or my 9mm hi-point carbine. (if they get in)

i have a Bushy M4 A3 Hbar with flip down sights, a 2x red dot, and about 800 rounds of M855. i'd bring that with a Win '94 with 100 rds as backup.

Bobby

Well, some people might not agree with me in the least but I think I'd take along my M 91/30 along with 60rds in stripper clips. It's a little long, a bit on the heavy side, and there's no bragging about magazine capacity but it's reliable to hell and back and it's just something I know can get pretty much any job done. Plus, I figure that in a situation where a town milita is needed it's to address an outside threat; that means (hopefully) that there won't be anything like clearing buildings and whatnot; the way I figure, there would be plenty of other people with more suitable arms for that sort of deal.

When your community is maybe 300 or 400 people scattered around a ten-mile diameter circle, 70 or 80 miles from any great-big 6,000-population city, the best thing to do is stay home. :D

You know, I think most of us would never show up. Not for lack of patriotic duty, or for any other political failing. I picture 2 scenarios:

1. This is the scenario I think would happen to most of us:
I think we'd be stuck at the open safe going. Should I bring the AR-15, or the AK-47? Dang, I need something for long range, at least 600 yards but I haven't sighted in my Remington 700 in 338 Lapua yet. Oooh, handguns can't forget those. Now, how about a revolver? Shoot, what if there's a mob. GOTTA go the auto route now. Should I take the XD 45 or the Glock 19? If I take the Glock 19, I can share Mags with the KT Sub 2000, but I want something more than a pistol caliber.

2. How much ammo should I bring? Will I be able to get resupplied? What about other people? Shoot, I need to bring the ammo boxes in case of weight limits. Why is the car leaning backward like that? Did I pack too much ammo? Shoot, what about food and other supplies?

Either one would have us standing in the basement of the house, where it's probably safest to be anyway.

You guys must live in much better towns than I do. I'd have a real long think on which side to report to if my town ever came under attack. The old enemies foreign and domestic thing gets a little less clear when BOTH are involved.

Like a chick getting ready for a hot date!:D

What guns

Well that'd be

my 7mmRUM with Nosler 140 grn for long work
my ar15 m4 with 1k ammo and a red dot for closer work
and my 1911a1 with 3 mags for really close work.

For those who have opted for two rifles -- one short range one long range -- I'm surprised that more people aren't suggesting an AR with two uppers. For instance, a light weight 'entry tactical' upper on the rifle while on the move, and then something in a 20" HBAR, maybe even a varmint/bull barrel, scoped with bipod in a backpack.

In the end, with only one (relatively light to carry) caliber, wouldn't that be the lightest most portable "two gun" combination? (I'm actually not a big fan of AR's myself, but this would be one scenario where I think their attributes would stand out.)

their are plent of ar's floating around my area. So it would either be my 308 target rifle or my Remington 700 VLS in 223. With as much ammo as I could fit in my backpack and my Kimber Custom II on my hip and my Ruger MkII hanging on the backpack with atleast 5,000 rounds for it as well.

MY first call would be to my gun smith for one of his suppressed 308 long range rifles. LOL :what:
