If you were to design a DA revolver......

What features would you build into it.

Here is what I would like:

Ruger push button cylinder release.
Ruger GP 100 style easy take-down subassemblies, and GP 100-like non-finger grooved rubber grips.
Ruger crane style lockup.
No stupid warning phrase on the barrel (I hate that feature of Rugers)
S&W like sights
S&W finish/fit quality--including areas like under the top strap that (on Rugers is rough)
Python like action (as smooth DA as is possible in a moderate priced revolver, and crisp SA)

Only things i can think of is interchangable barrel's like dan wessons,barrel porfile same as the 686 and sold ejector rod not the GP- 100 and SP-101 style that moves around.I know they're not involved in the cylinder lock up but they feel cheap compared most other revolvers.

I'd be happy with a S&W K frame grip/lock work and a Webley cylinder release. Make for some quick reloads.

My 1st love is semi autos and I can't afford a custom one of those...a custom revolver? Probably way to rich for my blood, especially when I can find used S&W revolvers that seem to be prett well made & still good shooters.

I would like a custom revolver too,as 10-ring mentioned. I have only seen them in catalogs. I'm not sure they are worth the money. Like I said, I have never fired one to tell.
But I think it would be fun to have one.
Probably better sights on a revolver I guess. That's all

The GP-100 is a very good design but they made it a little too beefy. This works out well if you shoot .357 loads all the time but from a carry standpoint I'd really like to see this revolver chambered in a larger caliber lower pressure round with a half lug barrel. Something like what S&W did on the L frame in .44 special but the ammo choices in .44 don't appeal to me much (expanding bullets are too light).

So something like the .41 special would be about perfect in a five shot platform. Let's get one factory load similar to the .38 Plus P 158 gr lead HP load. Make it 200 or 210 grains at 900 fps actual velocity from a 4" tube. This sounds similar to the police load for the .41 mag that went into M58s for police, but this would actually expand and would be fired from a smaller platform.

Then take advantage of the stub grip and offer a 2-3" fixed sight version with a more compact grip.

Wouldn't that put amazing amounts of force on what amounts to a pin? It looks like it just might be a matter of time until you lose your barrel and cylinder down range.

BIG pins . With modern metallurgy.

OK, it's pretty weird. But as the cylinder/barrel unit swings out, it hits a certain point and the ejector star hits the spring release and BOING! the rounds go flying out. The speedloader would be set up so that it compresses the ejector star back down until it clicks in to a retaining latch, which doesn't let it fly out until the next time the cylinder/barrel is rotated.

Reloads are FAST as hell and there's no "grip clearance issues". It should also be more compact overall than a breakopen setup.

I imagine your design could be made up as a five-shot .40 s&w, about the size of a 3" Colt Detective Special. Round butt frame with stainless construction, of course - - - It would be a kind of modern incarnation of the old British bulldog pocket revolvers - - -Small but serious!

I like Jim's design too-sort of a modern, updated version of the breaktop.

I still want a new breaktop design like the Russians recently did. I'd prefer DAO with internal hammer, large bore (> .40 caliber) low pressure (maybe .44 Special, .45 Colt), maybe 5-shot to put the gun at K or L frame size, stainless construction, short barrel (3" or less) and fixed sights (this ain't a target gun!!!).

Like to find a modern Bulldog in a decent caliber with a 2-3" bbl. (Yes, Thanks, I've searched prior threads, but still want one.)

I'd like to see more moon-clips used.
- a NON-PORTED LE-caliber (ie .40 S&W, .357 Sig, etc) 2" BUG
- a 9mm S&W Bodyguard. Hmmm, would that be a M693480?

While we're at it, remember the finger rest under the trigger guard on the old S&W Model Model 3 Russians? Why not put one that flips up (and out of the way for quick use of the weapon / concealment) and down (like for when you'd go SA on your Chief's Special) under the butt of the little 2-finger snubbie stocks?
Wouldn't be too complicated, just pattern it after the mechanism used on non-locking pocket knives ("slip-joint", I think). Even toss in a nail-nick to fumble it open.
