Not since granny burnt her money maker with a hot cup of coffee.

A cup of coffee about 40 degrees hotter than industry standards, leading to third degree burns after 20 seconds of contact through a garment. The reason for the heat was that customers would physically drink less coffee and such raise profit.

The whole picture is a bit different no?

[edit]

Now how about we get off the sound bites and start discussing responsibility instead of sitting at the local gunshop and and spreading our rhetoric to the choir that's ever diminishing in size?

Coffee bought thru the drive up - sqeezed between her legs to hold it in place and the top cover pulled off . You ever pulled the cover off a styrofoam cup, and then squeeze ?

Stupid is stupid ,and I was rasied to own my own mistakes. Coffee a bit hotter than normal doesn't burn you when you keep it in the cup.

The real issue with frivolous lawsuits like this is that theres no reason for a person lacking integrity not to try for it since even if the plantif loses their usually out nothing since most lawyers will charge a percentage of the settlement if its a large suit. The companies tend to settle because legally defending themselves costs so much more than settling even if they win since they not entitled to recoup legal fees, its a lose lose for companies.
