My son called tonight from the quad city area. (Davenport, Ia.) Local radio station talk jock claiming a court ruling demanding IL. respect cary permits issued in other states, to out of state residents, be honored in IL. much like a drivers licence/permit. Sheriff of Rock Island Co. is quoted as saying his dept. will NOT comply.
Has anyone else heard of this ruling? I forgot to ask what station he listens to.
Or, maybe he heard wrong and it was just wishful thinking on the jocks part.
Good news is he invited me down to help him and his wife pick their 1st. HD hand gun.

It is not law,,,,YET....

HR 822 is in process to do just that, but don't hold you breath, While it will likely succeed in the house, the senate is a totally different body, and should it actually make it past the senate...do you really think our present president would sign it?

I like to equate what they are tryng to do to a drivers license. All states and DC recognize another states drivers license, though when you enter another state you do have to abide by their traffic laws....HR 822 would do the same to a concealed carry license.

I don't see this happening anytime soon. How would it even work? We don'thave a CC law here so out of state permit holders would abide by what law? This is not gonna happen. Unless a federal court made the ruling, which AG Lisa Madigan would appeal, any such ruling would be meaningless since Iowa courts have no jurisdiction to tell Illinois what to do.

It sounds like the talk show host, like most of them, is only a source of entertainment, not information.

This is my guess, as well.

I keep fairly up-to-date on all legislative matters regarding carry in IL, as well as all RKBA cases in court. I've heard nothing of the sort.

The ruling was that an out of state resident did not need an IL FOID card.

been keeping tabs on this too(HR822). My hope is that it'll force CC into the few states that either don't have it at all, or effectively don't have CC (like this turd of the pacific I live in) I know it's pretty far fetched and it's chances are probably nil, but it's nice to hope.

What court made this "ruling?" Iowa courts have zero jurisdiction over Illinois, any first year law student could tell ya that. Any case citation? This makes no sense and sounds like a bunch of B.S. Just because someone with a microphone says something does not make it true.

Non-residents can have firearms in Illinois without a FOID card already. The issue was that they can't be loaded except in a few specified places like ranges or while hunting. I think the gist of the court decision could be that a NR with a permit can have a loaded gun in the same places an Illinois resident with a FOID card can.

It is a bit of a stretch legally IMO. But I think they made the ruling in this way to avoid admitting there is RTKBA.

Simply put, there is no provision in Illinois to honor another state's cc license.
