Ill Lt. Gov urges to pass gun bans now..

I've no problem with my carry permit being linked to my DR. After all, if a cop pulls over a guy who has had too much to drink, he has a right to know that the guy may also be armed.

ANYONE may be armed at any time anyway, which is why things like permits are silly--those who would go through the trouble of obtaining one just to abide by the law are obviously no threat (generally speaking), while those who cannot obtain one because they are a known threat would carry a gun anyway if they wanted to. What is the officer supposed to do, let his guard down for those who don't happen to have a carry permit? (rhetorical)

I can't speak for Illinois but here in Texas the CHL info IS linked to DL info. I've been stopped several times for having a lead foot, and each time when I hand my CHL on top of the DL to the nice officer they hand it back immediately and say thank you. I've only received one citation in a small town by a local guy, and usually the state troopers ask what kind of gun I carry, where it is (usually in the console) and they say just leave it there, they don't need to see it. They usually tell me to slow down and make some kind of comment about carrying like why would anyone travel without a gun, or they don't blame me a bit for carrying, something like that. Texas troopers are extremely professional and polite. Never had the slightest problem with any of them. That's how it should go all the time.

A buddy of mine is a county deputy and he says most officers appreciate knowing that the driver is a CHL holder. They do relax a bit knowing that the person they have stopped has been well investigated and deemed to be "one of the good guys" and not a convicted felon. Hey, they never know just who they have sitting there. It's not a job I would want.

This is already done in several states. I have gotten CCW info when running Tennessee drivers.

You do realize its a hand gun carry permit and not a concealed carry license? You also realize that a person can open carry with it right? Your a cop you of all people should know this. As I am sure you are also aware we permit holders are not required to inform you that we have a carry permit.

Sent from my mind using ninja telepathy.

Aren't you quibbling over semantics? CCW is a generic term.

Maybe in Tennessee, but not in Illinois.

Tennessee law has no validity in other states. The point I was making is that Tennessee and several other states attach carry permit information to the response an officer gets when a drivers license is run. Even on responses to out of state agencies.

Local cops here tell me they can ask anyone if they have items in their vehicle.Under the new CCW provisions, By admitting you have a firearm and are a ccw, they cannot use that as a probable cause for a vehicle search.

Yep, I'm certain my TX CHL has gotten me out of at least one ticket, and the few stops I've been involved in since I got it have always been amiable. In TX we are suppose to notify if we are carrying, so in theory if I was not carrying (never happens) I would not have to notify. I always would though out of courtesy.

I avoid Illinois like the plague. When recently working in St Louis, I had a client come across the river to me so I would not have to lock the PPS in the hotel safe. Sounds like that won't be changing anytime soon.

AR15 pistols should be in high demand.

Those can't be regulated by the new law.

And.. the ATF lost a court case against TC... you can covert an ar15 pistol to a rifle and back again so long as when it's switched to a rifle, the barrel is 16" and the OAL is > 26 ", and so long as when it has a shorter barrel it never has a stock.

(But you can NOT switch a rifle to a pistol)

(EDIT: Does the 26" mark apply with the stock fully extended or fully collapsed/folded? I'm not sure on that one.)
The impeding ccw pre-emption covers all weapons classified as pistols? All the over 3-lb, mag outside grip, .50 cal awb cook county rubbish goes out the window? I thought it was just pistol magazine capacity?

Archaic represented the situation in TX well.

Cannot believe how increasingly messed up IL is. The really wild thing, you're impossibly broke but politicians are trying to stop citizens from legally practicing their Constitutional rights. They should leave people alone and figure out how to put a budget together and stop the financial bleeding. Unfunded pension liability is growing by over $15,000,000 a day, but your representatives are attacking Constitutional rights?

Throw the bums out.

Yes, the original wording had the word "concealable" and that was stricken.

So ALL handguns will be pre-empted. Period.

Throw the bums out.

Easy to say, next to impossible too do. The simple fact is that Chicago/Cook County, and some others that surround it, have in themselves enough votes do dominate the state legislature and usually the governor's office. Those voters tend to be urban/leftist, and favor strict gun control.

Think of it this way, would you be in Texas if Austin had so many voters that the rest of Txas didn't matter? In a short time you'd look like New York State.
