While we are talking about gun control at the national level, politicians in several states have expressed a desire for more gun control.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/01/14/state-by-state-gun-report/1834361/

California

•Governor's office: Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown's office has declined to comment on his stance on gun control legislation or any push for changes to state law.
•Legislature: Updates that seek to close loopholes and improve enforcement of current laws are under consideration. Bills seeking to update the definition of a banned assault weapon and to ban conversion kits that create high capacity ammunition clips have been introduced.

Colorado

• Governor's office: Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, has called for background checks for gun purchases and to ensure people with mental health issues get help instead of turning to violence.
•Legislature: House Speaker Mark Ferrandino (D) said Hickenlooper's call to examining access to guns by the mentally ill will be taken seriously by the House and Senate.

Connecticut

•Governor's office: Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy has advisory committee looking at the state's gun laws. He favors a ban on large-capacity magazines, spokesman Andrew Doba said.
•Legislature: Rep. Bob Godfrey (D) and Sen. Beth Bye (D) said they'll push legislation to limit access to high-capacity guns, require a permit to buy ammunition and expand the definition of assault weapon.

Illinois

•Governor's office: Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn "believes strongly" that legislation restricting semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines should be passed this year, spokeswoman Brooke Anderson said.
•Legislature: Rep. Elaine Nekritz (D), chairwoman of the Judiciary Civil Law Committee in the last session, supports the measure. Also pending: A request by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for a federal appeals court to review a lawsuit challenging the state's ban on concealed carry. In December, a three-judge panel struck down the ban as unconstitutional.

Oregon

•Governor's office: Gun control is certain to be on the agenda, said Tim Raphael, spokesman for Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber. "The Governor sees no reason for civilians to have assault weapons – period," Raphael said. "He's directed staff to research a range of options for him to consider on firearms regulation, mental health and school safety measures that could be the basis for a comprehensive approach to the problem. "
•Legislature: At least three gun control measures already are gaining support . One would ban magazines for semiautomatic pistols and rifles that hold more than 10 rounds. Another would prevent holders of concealed weapons permits from taking guns onto school property. The third would ban the sale of military-style assault rifles in Oregon.

I feel for you guys. I'm glad I don't see Washington on that list...but it might not be long.

My home is in Oklahoma and I'm there most weekends. I work in Texas M-F.

I don't believe I should have anything to worry about in either state. As of last November, Okla. has "open" carry. According to the local news, Texas may pass an open carry law.

Okie, we have OC and CCW in Maine... Our residents were in large 70 +/-% opposed to any handgun regulations... we are a state of hunters but our government still is pushing for magazine capacity limits. Anything can be attemtped anywhere we need to stand our ground and cut them off at the pass.

Divide and conquer...

It is the same thing as the Presidential election, if everyone voted we wouldn't be in this mess, but no, that isn't happening. There are people that own guns that do not vote, do not contact their representatives, and do are not members of a pro RKBA group.

Everyone talks about "fighting" the government, but from what I see it was just talk. This is the fight. Our votes, our money, our phone calls, letters, and faxes.

Contact everyone. Pressure everyone. Drown them in our protests. We are all citizens, contact Fienstien and others, they work for us.

If they were to implement the mental health care requirements in CA wouldn't that prevent a great number if not most of the CA population? They do like their psychiatrists and their dope!

It is a shame to see the government of any state eager to restrict the rights of its citizens, but most of that list is no surprise. However, Colorado sticks out like a sore thumb. I guess CO's leaders really want to see it as the California of the Rockies.

In Missouri I hope we don't have any g control but we have a Democratic Gov to worry about!

Obama and Blunder I mean Biden are going to far! Who voted for these guys?

On election day we got to throw these gun grabbers out!

I'll see if I can get my great state, Mississippi, to offer refugee status to all those pushed out of their states for "resettlement in the East". Oh, sorry, had a brain slippage there. I meant, for owing previously legal--and still legal in Mississippi--firearms.

Yeah, it sucks, but at least they know better than to actually attempt mag restrictions or bans on types of guns. Sadly, I think there are very few states where a background check law wouldn't pass right now. Just count yourself lucky if you're in a state that isn't trying.

I am glad to see such 'fight' in THR members. I just wish that there were more of us with that "fire".

I have written my Federal, State, and local elected reps numerous times (often with each new development), made several phone calls (seven, now), even contacted the ones who are not my direct representatives (Boehner, Reid, etc.) and plan on not letting up.

This is it folks. Do what you can. Take a few moments away from your favorite gun forum and write a letter or four. They will add up.

Skribs.

Washington

Governor's office: Sterling Clifford, spokesman for Democratic Gov.-elect Jay Inslee, declined to comment on whether gun proposals would be part of the governor's agenda, but he emphasized that Inslee — as a congressman — voted for the assault weapons ban and favored background checks for firearms purchases at gun shows.
Legislature: There were no new gun law proposals in the list of bills filed in advance of the Legislature's Jan. 14 opening session.

Hopefully there's nothing to worry about... Will you be attending the march in Olympia on the 19th?

Your state will be next if you don't stop this. Don't think you are safe from this crap. You are a fool if you think otherwise. In 2004, people in Colorado said "We don't have to worry about another ban here. It's COLORADO."

Add Minn. to the list, bill introduced on assault weapons, mags and ammo.
Don't know the particulars however, will know more later today.

When I hear "think of the children" I say "I do...I think of the children who have to grow up in repressive society. I think of the children who's parents have to deal with a home invasion unarmed. I think of the small number of children murdered with guns compared to other weapons and say we need to go after violence as a whole."

I just think of this

No state is immune. The state level insanity is following federal level insanity. I've been hounding my reps., for weeks with various emails, from the president, on up. ;-]

Meanwhile, here in Ohio they are just double-checking to see if any laws need fixed so teachers can carry in schools. Finally some good news. I won't be surprised if another local AWB is proposed in Columbus, Cleveland, etc. We have plenty of antis here, especially in the cities and around the colleges.

I do not see Rhode Island on the list but I did look a the USA today article and in a sidebar it said that our Governor appointed a panel to overhaul our state's firearm laws. Personally, I think they are decent the way they are if not a tad restrictive. It doesn't really matter though, I have a chief of police that is currently refusing to do his job. He's been screwing with my permit application for quite some time. After the stated 120 day maximum for permit processing I called his office and he said, yeah, I got your application 2 days after the AURORA COLORADO SHOOTING. He told me he knows what the law says but basically said he doesn't want to process my application anyway. It is still pending...

That would be a waste of time since we have state preemption.
