The antis are not stupid. They're not going to go house to house confiscating guns, especially when that means they will have to pay for them. If they want to eliminate a certain class of guns (AR's, AK's, or whatever), they would create a category for them under the National Firearms Act, have an amnesty during which they could be registered, and then when that amnesty expired, declare the unregistered ones contraband. If you showed up in public with one (to go to the range, hunt, etc.), you would be subject to arrest, in the same way that someone seen with an unregistered machine gun is now. What you would have would be a useless (and worthless) gun hidden in the attic.
I clearly remember the 1968 amnesty for machine guns (which included DEWATs, which up to that point didn't have to be registered). A lot of people I talked to then said that they wouldn't register their unregistered machine guns, seeing that as a first step to confiscation. Well, here it is some 44 years later -- those that registered are sitting on fortunes, while those that didn't have a worthless nightmare in the attic.
I know that all this false bravado of "They'll never take my gun!" is cathartic. But just be careful what you say now. It might come back to bite you.
