With 97 new legislators in the general assembly, the supreme courts recent decisions on the Heller & McDonald cases and strong support from the Illinois Sheriff's Assocation, I'm hearing a concealed carry law in Illinois is starting to look like a possible reality.

Ok, let's say the bill passes through the house. What happens when it reaches Gov. Quinn's desk? He will veto it. Do they have enough votes to over ride the Governor's veto?

Don't forget, the Chicago Sergeants' Association is also backing HB 0148 now! Chicago Chiefs have indicated that they will be favorable after a small change was made....they (the Chiefs) haven't made an official announcement yet but were at the committee proceedings last Tuesday in Springfield.

It will require a super-majority (3/5 ths) to make it to his desk, this is also the same vote required to override a veto....but some votes could flip either way in between the original vote and the Fall veto session.

At least one of the "Bad" bills passed thru committee today (ammunition capacity) and will also be seen on the house floor, so that is a concern also. I think an "AWB" bill is going thru committee very soon as well....so while things are looking up, other things are still going down- so to speak.

Get on the phone and help! Call the reps and senators, get more info and tell them about it!

Here's one link that can help, it updates the status of gun related bills every 10 minutes: http://www.illinoisgunbills.com/

Also visit illinoiscarry.com forums for LOTS more info and direct links to committee members that need to be called.

Good luck guys! I moved from the SW subburbs a little while back (for work, not political reasons) but love hearing about progress in IL. Doubt there's anything I can do out of state, but post any links to petitions and I'll forward them on to family

Yes things are looking up over here in Illinois but as was already mentioned there are some bad bills in the works.

"high" capacity magazine bans, .50 calibler bans, one gun per month restrictions bla bla bla. The nonsense never stops. If it weren't for a good paying job we'd move to West Virginia and be close to my fiancee's family.

Things in Illinois are moving in the right direction. The freedom groups NRA, ISRA, and others are on the offensive and the gun-banning hoplophobes are on thier heels and swinging wildly trying to salvage any part of thier agenda. nothing certain but it sure looks better than it has at any time in my lifetime.
it also means that this isn't the time for us to relax. we have to keep the pressure on.

In Illinois, matters that affect home rule require a 3/5ths majority to pass.
This law will definitely affect Chicago gun laws, so it will therefore require the 3/5ths. 3/5ths is what it takes to override a veto. Thus, if it passes the IL house and senate, it is already veto proof.

No, but it probably means Little Richie's head will explode.

Man, imagine his spitting and babbling if this bill passed. It would be priceless.

He can't be gone soon enough for me.

The AWB bill is dead. We are quite close to a veto-proof majority so Pat Quinn is irrelevant. HB 148 is supposed to be up before the Ag committee Tuesday. This week alone it went thru 4 rewrites.

I could probably watch that a thousand times and laugh every one of them. The guy has no real sense or information/facts to back up his "common sense gun laws," funny because everytime I watch the news someone else is shot/killed/etc and he continues to think the current laws work?

Anyway, hoping this bill passes. My Rep is on board, now all you other IL folks gotta make sure yours are too!

Lets keep talking to our reps in the house in Springfield. Lets get-r-done this time! The criminals in Illinois is growing leaps and bounds. How about the 2 million dollar heroin bust in Kane Co. last week! She drove a pick up with the drive shaft full of heroin, from Texas. No drivers license, no insurance, just illegal drugs. We need CCW now!!!

My legislator is anti-gun. She is clueless and in the back pocket of Madigan. Mom on a mission ... to take away our rights ... it's for the children.:scrutiny:

I did not vote for her, and I do vote.

Your "Mom on a mission" are the ones we need to educate.

Send her a transcript of the three ladies in DC went to court and were told the police have no obligation to answer their call for help and they are being raped and beaten.

Ask her, if her children were the ones being raped and beaten while she was forced to watch, who would help her (until after it was too late), or maybe as her children were forced to watch their mother raped and beaten...who is going to help her???(until after it is too late)

*****action needed******

The official numbers are being kept secret, but as of a couple weeks ago it was reported to be 3-4 votes short in the House. The push is on, hard.

CALL, EMAIL, & FAX your rep. You can also do what I and many, many, many others are doing and CALL, FAX, & EMAIL all of the reps.

This is the farthest we have come since Edgar vetoed a carry bill. This is it folks. No excuses. Make the calls, send the emails & faxes. It's easy.

It's coming down to the wire. How bad do you want it.

I wish you boys in Illinois good luck. I would like to go back there someday.
Altho I believe HELL will freeze over first.

I emailed my representative this evening. Hopefully she is as pro-second amendment as her predecessor was. And her predecessor was a pro-gun Democrat in IL.

That's pretty rare anywhere near Chicago. LOL
