Illinois concealed carry ban may be overturned

August 04, 2011 10:20 AM EDT

Illinois is now the only state that does not have a concealed carry law, but that may soon change. A hearing is scheduled today in a lawsuit brought by a resident of Champaign, Michael Moore, and the Second Amendment Foundation Inc.

This case was heard today. Any word on when we may have a ruling?

.

Should be soon.

At the end of the hearing the judge stated that she wouldn't be able to get a ruling out on Friday the 5th like she originally planned. We are thinking early week of the 7th. No matter what happens it will get appealed and up up up we go.

You will find updates almost as they occur at www.illinoiscarry.com. Ty Vandermyde, the NRA lobbyist is a member of the forum and keeps us updated regularly. The SAF is also a member.

Please feel free to join the forum and help us defeat the wack job Illinois politicians.

Being from Illinois...specifically the Champaign-Urbana area, I cannot stress how important this is for gun owners and advocates. I recently moved to Texas where things are much, much different, but I hope Illinois can think about the idiocy that surrounds this ban.

Politics at its best, folks. Or should I say worse.

This may help their economy as well. I have rerouted trip before to go around Illinois through Arkansas and Missouri just to keep from disarming myself and family just to pass through their oppressive state. In the future, I might pass through or even stop to spend money on gas, lodging, or food. Until then, they have nothing I need.

Sure it will! Permit fees, classes, gun/ammo/accessory purchases...all of those help the state, local economy, and small businesses. It's a win-win for everyone involved...such a shame this hasn't been passed a long time ago

We agreed to pay $100 for a CCW permit, but we lost by 6 votes. 3 of those votes said they'd be on our side, but switched at the last minute.

That's not a win-win.

Being forced to pay to exercise your "rights" is not a win-win, just slightly less tyranny, at least for those who can afford it.

It's better than nothing. What state allows you to get your permit for free?

after having lived under communsist rule on gun laws like the folks in illinois have.....a "permit" system is a huge leap forward, and with continued pressure and grass roots representation it will improove like Ohio's did......

Pay for Rights

We pay for the right to drive on the highways with our license plate fee. In some states the right to park and drive on the city streets with a sticker fee. If the fee to CCW is a one time fee, not bad, but watch for a recurring fee, not good.

It's better than nothing. Win the right to ccw in Illinois. Fight the restrictions later. It's better to have (temporarily) restricted ccw than none at all.

I have been paying 50 bucks with no requal or refresher class every four years for my TN handgun carry permit. That is not a bad deal and a shade more expensive than some states charge for a DL. It is not as good as Kentucky folks have it when they can open carry in public and car carry for free but hey i'll take what I have. I don't have to requal at the range like I would have back home in Arkansas and take a 'refresher' class to renew, so to me Tennessee is an improvement.

Best of luck to you folks in Illinois. My step-son lives not far from Champaign. We were out there recently to visit him and I noticed all the "Burma-Shave" signs along the highway. (Try to get them to honor a Virginia permit while you're at it. :D )

No, it's not a "win" but before you can win the battle, you have to get a toehold on the beach.

4 of them do. Those states are absent control freaks who believe that permitting stops crime, or has any real impact on it at all. They don't even have permits! Let the hand-wringing begin...

Guys who were offended by my statement - I get that this is better than what IL had, my comment was in opposition to the statement that it was a "win-win for all involved". It's better than nothing, but far from pure win.

Hard to tell what will happen. I would not be expecting to be walking around the streets of Chicago with a handgun strapped on your hip just yet.

I do not see a judge at this level doing anything in our favor that would not be stayed so the appeals court can bless it.

And even then, it is very hard to know just what might come of it, or how practical what we get out of it might be.

I think we are 2-3 years away from getting something truly useful. But, I could be wrong, and hope it happens a lot quicker.

Driving is not a right, though. It is a privilege.

It sucks to have to pay for our rights, but it's our own faults for voting in the morons who banned our rights in the first place. Sure, we've voted in other new morons who might lift some restrictions, and make us pay for our rights. It's a learning process, we have to find the right morons to vote into office that will allow Constritutional Carry. When Constitutional Carry is a nationwide right in all parts of all states, every square inch of the nation, then we have won. Until then, keep on keein' on.
