We've just learned that the Illinois House of Representatives will vote this Tuesday, April 26 (tomorrow), on two bills that seek to ban .50 caliber rifles.

YOU MUST ACT TODAY TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS !

The first bill, HB 1098, introduced by Representative Elaine Nekritz (D-57), seeks to ban all .50 cal. rifles and ammunition. The second, HB 2414, introduced by Representative Edward Acevedo (D-2), seeks to ban certain semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, as well as .50 cal. rifles. These bills will do nothing to address the problem of violent crime, and would serve only as another attack on your RIGHT to own the rifle caliber of YOUR choice.

With the flurry of legislative activity currently underway in Illinois, e-mails will be of little use as they will become buried in amongst those on other topics. It may take days before your e-mail is read and that will be too late. Consequently, we're asking Illinois firearms owners to please call or fax your State Representative and to do it TODAY. You can determine who your state rep is (and get their office numbers) by visiting the IL legislature website at: http://www.illinois.gov/government/gov_legislature.cfm You may also get your legislator's office numbers by calling (217) 782-8223. Please respectfully urge him or her to listen to the will of the electorate, not those with fanciful solutions for non-existent problems. Oppose HB 1098 and HB 2414.

The gun ban crowd feels they are on a roll with the California fifty ban in place and are already counting Illinois in their "win" column. They believe Illinois will be easier than California. They're convinced you're a soft target. Show them they are wrong.

I have been screaming from the rooftops everywhere I go, it seems to be falling on deaf ears as of late.

My reps are behind us 100%

This came from ISRA today:

I am looking for this week to be action packed. I will send reports in whenever I can. Tuesday or Wednesday I expect HB2414, HB1098, and HB990 to be called. I know the other side will call them if they have the votes. I have heard they will be called on Tuesday. That means Monday and Tuesday are the most important days for you, the membership, to call their repersentatives. Be polite... Remember, you're going to be talking to office staff who are there to take down the details of your call.

We will have bills HB0053, HB0057, HB2103, and HB2104 called in House Ag & Conservation. I expect these bills to pass to the floor of the House. I will alert everyone when that happens. Once they go to Second reading we should start calling. If we call to soon many on the House members will not know what we are talking about because they know nothing of the bills. The window here could be very short so everyone will have to ready. I would make sure everyone checks their email every day--maybe a couple times a day. I am asking all members to forward the updates to everyone as soon as they get them. They in turn should do the same thing. I will send action steps as soon as we determine what they should be.

Right now please make calls opposing HB2414, HB1098, and HB990. Concentrate on House members only. This is kind of like a battle field so things are going to be fluid. Adjustments are to be expected.

Reminder, the phone numbers for all Illinois Representatives are listed here:

Richard Pearson,
ISRA Executive Director

Hit the phones and keep calling. Remember to be polite and not let your anger over this come through over the phone.

I spoke to Curt Grandburg's office (House Majority Leader) and Curt is not supporting this. It looks like the make or break votes are with the collar county republicans. The Chicago Democrats will vote in lockstep. Probably one vote from Southern Illinois (Wyvetter Young from East St Louis) from either party.

I called Patti Bellock and left a message at her local office.

I expressed my concerns about not only the two bills coming up Tuesday, but also my concerns about the state of the gun laws in Illinios in general.

When I got home I had two messages, one from her office telling me they would pass my concerns along and one from her on her cell phone as she was heading down to Springfield.

She acknowledged my concerns but didn't tip her hand on how she would vote. :fire:

I take this as a bad sign. Our district (47) is about as conservative as it gets in Chicagoland and she even has a B rating from the NRA. I have a feeling she is wobbly on at least on one of these bills.
