So what you guys think about that new law for Illinois? Private gun sales are subject to background checks now.

It's been a requirement to run a person's FOID through the state police website when conducting a private gun sale. If you have a FOID the state police run a background check on you 300 days a year, not doing so on 5 holidays during the year. The only thing this new law will accomplish compared to what they were previously doing is to make law abiding citizens jump through more hoops. I'm pretty sure criminals are not going to stop buying guns on the street, as they've been doing all along.

It was a typo. They run it 360 days.
They did that here in New Mexico over a year ago and it's done absolutely nothing to curtail gun crime........

The FOID system has imploded, my son has been waiting since a year ago last March for his renewal. The new law provides no money to make the system more efficient and work within the boundaries of the original law. If they can’t ban all the guns they want at least to know where they are eventually.
Been a law for years now that private sales require a visit to the ISP portal to verify that the buyer has a valid FOID. You are then given a transaction number to keep in your records
