im going get some .44 mag reloading parts.

in my old book it says bullet diameter is .429 but i see the bullets at the store are .431

is that ok? its the lead oregon trail bullets. i would post a link but its way too big and most likely against the rules here.

i asked before but only got one reply, do i need just large pistol primers or magnum large pistol primers?

its a s&w model 29. im just reloading for plinking right now. i figure the 200 grain bullets are good enough.

Cajun, I am pretty new to reloading and only do .44 mag, from what I have gathered from my reloading manuals is lead bullets are usually sized larger than jacketed bullets. Not exactly sure why but they should be fine for plinking, some say to keep velocity under 1000 fps to help prevent leading of the barrel as well.

Primers - it depends on the powder you are using. You should be following load data from a manual, it will specify which primer to use. One safe bet is the Winchester large pistol primer, they only sell one which they claim takes the place of large pistol & magnum large pistol. Again, you should be following the specifications in your reloading manual.

Bullets, 200 grain is fine. I started out playing with different bullet weights a couple months ago. However, I have settled on using 240gr for everything, I reload for my super blackhawk and Marlin 1894. For general use I am using the bulk Magtech 240gr SJSP from Midway and for hunting I use 240gr XTPs. These both shoot to the same point of impact from my guns. The Magtech bullets are only slightly more expensive than bulk lead bullets btw.

Cajun yep them are .44 bullets.
As to primers you don't say what powder your using so my rule of thumb is alliant powders don't want or need a mag primer all others do.

Those will be fine. Nonjacketed bullets are supposed to be oversized. And there is no need to keep them below 1000 fps; I've shot the Oregon Trail .45LC bullets at 1300+ fps without any problems.

You only need large pistol magnum primers if you're using W-296 or H-110 powders. Most other powders actually do better with standard primers.

Lead bullets typically run .001 larger than jacketed bullets. I shot plenty of those Laser Cast 240's sized to .431. The General rule with lead is .001 or .002 over the bore diameter for best performance. They make a fine product (except for that darned bevel base). As primers, I always use Win Large pistol. I only use Unique and 2400 in 44 mag.
