I'm going to get a Springfield 1911A1 Loaded tomorrow!!!
Yessiree, 'ol denfoote's jumping into the 1911 world with both feet!!

I looked at the Kimber, but found it wanting. The questions about the current quality of Kimbers gave me pause. So, springfield it is!! :D

I'll let you all know how it shoots!! :)

Greeting's Again Dennis-

I believe that you will be well served with the Springfield.
I have been thinking about a TRP model ever since my
ole' bud RWK started writing about his. I just got to find
a way to finance this project; then I will be set. Enjoy-

Best Wishes,

Congrats,
In my opinion nothing shoots like a good 1911. Lord, knows I have tried everything else and I always go back to old slabsides. There are a lot of good guns out there, lots of them that I like alot. I just can't seem to find anything else that feels as good in my hand and that I can shoot better.
Hope you enjoy yours.

What are ya trading towards it?:D Seriously though, 1911's are great carry pieces. I personally like the feel of Colts, haven't had a chance to try a new Springer with the recontoured frame.

I just got a new Springfield WWII mil-spec. It has the same frame as my loaded thats 4-5 years old. My older Springfields are more true to Colt specs. Are the new dimensioned frames yet to come? I too like the Colt dimensioned frames the best. The Springfields now are longer in the grip and fuller in the dust cover, and dont fit the hand as well.

I came into some mad money via my late mother's estate. She was an old school eastern liberal. Gads, how she must be spinning in her grave!!!
Anyway, I've allocated $1000 for the purchase of a gun. Just one!! I figure a decent 1911 will make a fitting memorial to a fine mom, who managed to raise her son right!!!

My wife made me give her most of the rest to replenish the bank account after draining it to bury the sweet old lady. She was 85 and died in her sleep of congestive heart failure last month. God rest her soul. I seldom name my guns, this one shall be christened: Mary!!

I think that Mary is a good name for a 1911. Please post a range report after you give her a run. Enjoy.

Springfields did have a thicker dustcover and more metal on the front strap of the grip, which made them feel thicker. Supposedly the new ones that are out don't have this anymore.

Good call Denfoote!

I have found that nothing feels or shoots better outta my hand than the old slab sides! I like mine dressed up too!
Sorry about your Mother...and I think it is a fitting tribute to name the grand ol'pistol after a grand significant person.
My Father passed away in 01, I claimed his circa 1976 series 70 MKVI as my own(hey, I shot it, carried it and cleaned it more than he did...it was the first 45 auto I ever shot!), and dressed it up a tad with some wilson parts and decent sights. Tis a 100% gun, fees everything. I will always call it 'Dad's Gun' no many how many decades I have left!
Good shootin'

PS Wilson mags are the BEST!

Congrats!

I did almost the same thing. 'Not to steal your thunder, but my first 1911 is going to be a Valtro, which I ordered in August.

Spring 2004 can't come quick enough!

1911A1L

:) I just picked up one today. After lating eyes on it, it was then apparent that it was my destiny to own this fine piece of art. You will NOT be disappointed in the least bit.

That Springer is a good place to start with the 1911A1. You will ask yourself why you didn't do it sooner.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! :D

Here are the records of the first shots.

100 230gr Winchester white box.

30 230gr PMC hardball.

30 Federal 230gr Hydro Shok.

There were three failures to go completely into battery, which I attributed to the gun being extremely tight!!.

When I got it home, I took it apart...that turned into an epic three hour struggle, getting it back together again...and discovered that the slide was serial numbered to the frame!! Now, I have no experience with high end 1911's, save this one, but with Lugers, it means that the slide has been hand fitted to the frame to get the best accuracy. Just how "custom" is this gun, I wonder?? Anyway, it shoots and feels like the fine firearm it is!! I'll fire up the digital camera and post some pics at a later time

Now, I have to start buying more mags. I already have a Kramer Belt Scabbard for my P35 that also fits the 1911, So, I'm set for a holster!! :)

Sorry I have to do it this way, but I have not a picture hosting site!! :banghead:

The lure of the force is strong Denfoote!

Wait until you spend a few weeks with it. There is something about them that will just draw you in. More so even than the P99 did. I have two of them and am thinking about adding a couple more.

A few more steps than just tripping the slide release such as on the P99 or Glock, but not too tough once you get the hang of it. One thing that would make it easier is to replace the full length guide rod with the standard short one and plug from Ed Brown. That is a matter of personal preference though.

When you get a chance pop in over at The 1911 Forum

Lots of good info for you to read through, and a Springfield specific section even.
