I'm back into J-frames

Ever since buying a Smith 642, I've almost exclusively carried it. It's a huge step down firepower wise from carrying a Glock .40 cal (23 or 27), but I've put thought into it and decided that realistically it should be enough for most situations that I would potentially encounter.

I had a Bianchi Agent (16R) speedloader panel come in today, and I'm just using one of the pouches on a belt from it for a speedloader for the moment.

Anyways, I used to own a 340PD, but sold it because I wasn't thrilled with it.

Since buying a 642 though, I'm back into the J-frame thing, pocket-carrying it.

I'm thinking I should buy a .22lr J-frame for range use, mainly just for fun... but I have been wondering what other J-frames are out there that are worth having. I'm thinking a SP-101 would be a good choice. What else?

Do you really see a 642 being significantly different from a 340PD?

Not really.

I can't explain why I didn't like the 340PD, but I like the 642.

Maybe I've gotten better at shooting since, or maybe the extra few ounces make a difference. I don't really know.

Hey cheese,
I just sold my glock mod.22 .40 cal. to a friend and quickly picked up a 642 to replace it.

The hometown has gotten a bit more dagerous in the past couple of years and I do not like going unstrapped around town.

The glock was a great pistol for 15 years but it was not realy good for a CCW.

The 642 fits my bill better and I know my friend got exactly what he wanted. My old glock has a good home.

Folks; my 638 has a place in my pocket/pockets most of the time. On those other times a G22 rides on the side. If I'm not careful the 638 still ends up in a pocket. I'm not paranoid just habits are hard to break.
Will I get rid of one or the other no

I don't know if its a J frame but Taurus makes a model 94 thats is a 9 shot in .22 LR. they also make an 8 shot .22 magnum. I have the model 94 and its very nice.

And just today I picked up a S&W 351pd - haven't shot it yet but it feels so good...10.6 oz. super lightweight, black finish with a sort of cherry looking laminated? grips (this weekend I promise to bribe the wife into teaching me how to download pictures) I mean just beautiful grips and it is a 7 shot .22 magnum. The trigger is a little hard but its a rimfire.

Great weak hand backup?

I checked out a used (consignment) S&W scandium in the .22 LR and the trigger was super heavy - I almost could not cock the hammer it was so bad - I figure that was why it was up for sale. Anyway, this gun is nowhere near that bad but about 100 times heavier than my Python.

Based on the J Frame Centennial format I bought this several months ago.
Heavier than the PD, lighter than a X42.
Tritium night sights. Better than a blade, better than a light pipe IMO for sight acquisition.
Stanless cylinder allows all .357 loads not just the heavies.

I have a 642-2 with CT 405s and the M&P 340 in the J Frame Snubbie Stable.
It is not too surprising that after the full frame autos many folks are rediscovering the snubs for pocket carry.

The model 34s (22lr)are fun to shoot and help you keep focus on trigger and site picture without it costing a fortune in ammo. They come in four or 2 inch and fit the same holters as any other jframe so you can practice your draw and fire.

In my opinion all carry guns should have a 22 conversion or a gun that is just like it in 22.

Tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of little J frames are, at any moment in time, in the pockets or holsters of handgunners who know handguns very, very well and know what works best for CCW.

Many a gunwriter of popular gun rags have led the novice down the path of a chunky, fat-ass bottom feedin' jam-a-matic. However . . . active shooters will eventually gravitate towards the stuff that really works best for a task . . .

And the little J frames are the best little "all the time" CCW handguns on the planet!

Ironically, the 22 year-old son of a friend of mine was at his dad's home last night. He's gotten a good job and has started to accumulate firearms . . . and mainly Glocks starting with a fat old Model 21. His latest purchase was a compact Glock .40S&W.

He was talking about how tiny the grip was and so I thought I'd show him a REAL concealment handgun!

I pulled out this gorgeous 1964 Model 36 and he looked at the tiny thing. "I've never been much into revolvers," he declared. And I quietly thought to myself, "And you ain't much of a handgunner either yet."

In time . . . he'll come to understand!

I just picked up these two lightweights last week or so. I have been carrying a full size Taurus 9mm for years and thought of how I missed the airweights. I do love the way you can stick one of these in your pocket and not feel weighted down.

I love my S&W 642 CT

Though I often carry my G27 .40 cal or my H&K P2000SK .40 cal V2 LEM
