I just wanted to share, because everybody loves pics. You can scroll past the story if you want. ;)

I've been playing the AR game for about a year now, and my rifle is FINALLY built up how I want it to be. I probably could have started from parts and came out a lot cheaper, but doing this in the round-about way has been great learning experience for me. This rifle began life as a Stag 2L, a 16" carbine with a LEFTY flat top upper and standard 2-piece handguards.

Over the past year I have been making small changes one or two at a time as I learn more about what I do and don't want. The most use I get out of this rifle is as a range and close-range varmint gun, but I have always wanted it to stand ready as a home defense or social work gun if needed. I decided the importance of the last two roles was great enough that I should get a right-handed upper with some mil-spec, properly built and tested parts. I have other plans for the lefty Stag upper, but my Stag lower is now wearing a Frankenupper of honest-to-goodness, right-handed stuff.

Now for the good stuff! Please forgive my photo skills (or lack thereof).

The goodies are:

  • Stag lower
  • Magpul MIAD
  • VLTOR clubfoot Modstock
  • Ambi safety and Norgon Ambi-Catch (Lefties unite!)
  • Homebrew polished the trigger/sear/disconnect to get the grittiness out
  • LMT standard upper with 16" M4 profile 1/7" MPI and chrome lined barrel
  • "Super Duty" BCG from Denny's Guns (CMT MPI bolt with a chrome lined carrier from somebody big (think ponies))
  • Badger tac-latch
  • Midwest Industries T10 handguard over a lo-pro gas block
  • MI flip up BUIS front and rear
  • EOTech 512
  • Surefire M962
  • Smith Vortex flash hider
  • $11 Promag VFG (I'm proud of that one. Probably going to keep it 'til I die!)
  • Plain-Jane 2-point sling running from buttstock to receiver end of handguard with QD swivels

I did not assemble the buffer tube, and I did not install/stake the gas key. Everything else was done by me. I even bought a torque wrench for the barrel nut! :D There are worse diseases to have than AR fever. . .

Beautiful AR, congrats on finishing and making it custom the way you wanted. Feels good to finish something that you have spent time and money on to get it the way you want huh? Now all thats left is to shoot the darn thing!

Nice pics, I've been looking for pictures of Ar's with Vortex Flash Hiders!

Leftie! Nice to see. :D

Question, with the leftie receiver any problems at all with the other parts matching up?

Kind of Blued,

Now that you mention it, no, there is nothing wrong with the other side of the gun. I think I just got used to taking pictures of that side when it had the lefty upper on it! ;)

Federalfarmer,

I never had any problems when the lefty upper lived on it, but wouldn't have had any reason for problems. It was a Stag upper mating to a Stag lower, with a Stag lefty BCG in it. The LMT upper is a bit tight in the rear take-down pin, though. Can't get it out without using a bullet tip to push it pretty hard.

I took it out and ran about 30 rounds through it last night to zero the irons and EOTech. Runs like a champ :D
