Saw a 99.9% Ruger Blackhawk 44 at local pawnshop, and I can't stop thinking about it! (Think I could get it for $400.) I'm fairly new to revolvers and only have two, which are both stainless. The gun in question is blued. I like really, really clean guns, and I've found that the only way I can get the carbon off the front of the cylinder and the frame around the barrel is to use a patch of lead remover cloth. I think it's abrasive, but with stainless a little bit of abrasion should be OK. Here's my question: Will lead remover cloth remove blueing? Thanks.

Will lead remover cloth remove blueing?

Yes it will, and each time you shoot the revolver the rings will be back. If you keep removing them the front of the cylinder will be polished bright, and the rings will become more visable.

If you leave the rings alone they will be less visable against the blued cylinder face. The only way to avoid those rings is to not shoot the revolver and make it into a safe queen.

As a practical matter the rings aren't a problem, unless they build up to the point where the cylinder won't turn, and that's unlikey because what they really are is a burn mark made by hot powder gas.

I prefer blued handguns because they don't reflect sunlight in the maner that stainless does, and have learned to live with the burn marks. If they really bother you forget this particular gun (although I wouldn't) and buy a similar one made of stainless.

$400.00 sounds a little steep. CDNN has 50th Anniversary BH's in .357 and 44 Mag for $380.00..... NEW!

They came out in '06 and are basically flat top clones (except for the transfer bar hammer). Until Ruger came out with the 50th Anniversary model, they had not made a flat top BH since 1962.

I got one of the .44 Mags and I am very pleased with it.
