I'm looking for accurate .308 match ammo that I can safely shoot in a Garand

This past fall, I got my Garand rebuilt & converted to 7.62x51/.308 by DGR and boy does it shoot sweet!

I'd like to try some really accurate ammo in it to see what it can do, but I don't want to bend my oprod or anything. Is there any good 7.62x51 or .308 match stuff that won't hurt my baby?

I'm sorry. I meant commercial ammo. I'm not setup to reload.

Right now the best it shoots is 2" @100 yards with surplus. I'd like to find out if it will do MOA with match ammo.

Federal Premium, the type loaded with the Sierra 168gr. match bullets.

EXCELLENT commercial ammo for high grade high power match-type rifles.

Blackhills Match (Red Box) is an alternative to Federal Gold Medal Match and can often be found cheaper Federal. The Blackhills is available in 168 and 175 gr BTHP, moly and non-moly.

black hills, federal gold match, and winchester supreme match all work well. actually, i don't even know if winchester still makes that match ammo. i shot quite a bit of it for competition and it worked just as well as the federal match.

I was under the impression that heavy ammo was bad for a Garand. So you guys are saying the Black Hills or Federal 168gr. & 175gr. match ammo won't turn my oprod into a pretzel?

Military match ammo has traditional been loaded with 173 grain bullets for the .30/06, and I think also for the 7.62 NATO match round as well.

Thus, using a 168 grain commercial match bullet (and the 173 military one) is NOT a problem in the M1, PROVIDED the appropriate propellants are used, and appropriate propellant charges are used.

Add to the above the following general rule of thumb for the M1 Garand:

Use bullet weights at or below 180 grains, and stay with propellants with burn rates around IMR 4895.
