Today I took the wife to the fun store to try on some potential Homeland Security shotguns, and had an experience that made me fall in love all over again. They had a WASR-10 on the rack, and as I fondled it, she remarked, "That's cute." Granted, cute isn't the word I would use for it, but heck, coming the wife, I'll take it. She even sounded semi-interested in my purchasing it. Which leads me to a question...

What is a fair price for a WASR right now? It was priced at $669. Is that good?

Well a few months ago you could get one for 400 but 669 for a post election price is actually lower then most. I was at the fun show today and the only one i saw was 800 dollars:what:. Anyways they are drying up fast and AKs are badass so if i were you and had the extra cash id go ahead and grab it. And doubly so if the wife is onboard with the idea. Anyways good luck!

Keep the wife. Anyone who tells you that an AK is "cute" will never care how ugly you get when you get old.

You paid twice the pre-Obamanation price. Can't say you got a horrible deal as I haven't priced an AK since before the election. AR-15 stuff is getting hard to get though:barf:

FWIW I didn't actually buy it, and I probably won't. I just can't justify the money. I was just floored that I would have had the wife's blessing, with a "cute" thrown in.

thats definitely WAY over what I remember it being not too long ago. Man, the Dunhams/crappy sporting good shops with guns were selling them for $300 (always "on sale"). Sick to see how prices have skyrocketed so quickly. If you do want to get a rifle for you and your wife to play with together, the AR15 is definitely a good choice (not that the AK isn't). I'm not sure of your wifes prior firearm experience but my GF LOVES my AR. Good ergonomics and adjustable stock means it fits both of us. For Xmas, aside from what you were going to get her, maybe its time for a gun purchase, or an inexpensive class that you two can take together!

If you or anyone else can find an AR at this point that is not overpriced as well, you win 10 internets.
